From FoxNews, Sunday, January 13, 2008:

'Give Us a Shot': N.C. Church Hands Out Shot Glasses at Bars

    Sunday, January 13, 2008
    Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — To get people to attend his new church campus, Robbie McLaughlin is sending his message out to where the people are.

Next Friday, staffers from Next Level Church of Matthews will go to bars in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte to hand out shot glasses which ask patrons to "give us a shot" and bear the slogan, "Real church for real people."

The idea is to draw people to the Ballantyne campus, which opens next month.

'Give Us a Shot': N.C. Church Hands Out Shot Glasses at Bars

    Instead of heeding Christ's command...

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

the church is bringing the world into the church by using worldly techniques and gimmicks to bring people into the church. Whatever brings a person into church, will keep that person in that church....in this case it's the promotion of alcohol.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

    Bad idea...

(sarcasm on) They should have passed out key chains to promote drunk driving (sarcasm off)

    What's next?

A church that promotes alcohol isn't a church for Christ.

Sounds more like a social club than a church. Next thing coming up is worship services (?) at your local bar and grill!!!!

    1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

An angry temperance preacher says :" I'd take all the beer in the world and throw it in the river ." Then with added fervor tells his flock :" I'd toss all the world's wine in the river ! " Finally with a fist in the air says with great ardor : "And I'd take all the whiskey in the world and pour it in the river !! "

Then with some hesitation the song leader announces the hymn : "Shall We Gather At The River ?"

There are too many entertainment churches

Jay Bakker already has "church" services in a bar.

    Bar church service.

At the end of the video the speaker says that the bar is still open. [IMG]

We need a church that sets up a lottery each week. The winner gets to take his tithe home.

I agree that the shot glasses are a bad idea, but surely you're all not suggesting that we not go to the "bad places" where the lost are. I have a friend that's in a bar every single weekend... never drinks a drop of anything except a bottled diet dr. pepper. And he's there to witness to whoever the Lord drops in front of him. He loves it, I suppose because He is a non-threatening guy who just loves the Lord and loves people. He has a motto:

I love you enough to meet you where you are.
I love you too much to let you stay there.

Amen, Bro Rhodes! Jesus was criticized for hanging out where the publicans and prostitutes were. Yet he carried his message of God's love to those most in need, wherever they were.

Proverbs 23:20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

Looks like your friend is trying to witness by disobeying God's Word.

Funny, I cannot find one verse that says He hung out in those places.

    SFIC,
I think he referring to the Pharisees criticizing Jesus for eating with tax collectors, getting near those with leporsy, and forgiving those committing adultry, the general riff raff of the day. You are right though, it was not a place you could equate with a modern bar or strip joint.

He does alot more than try to witness... in fact I would gather he does more witnessing than alot of other people. And we've been able to see the harvest. Why would you question that?

This is not a "whatever it takes, win them" argument either. I'm just saying that he has seen alot of people come out of that lifestyle because of his witness.

    Reminds me of this:
Protestants don't recognize the infallibility of the Pope.
Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
Baptists don't recognize each other at the bar.

Those pharisees who criticized Christ were lost, unsaved, without God. Their situation is not a valid comparison.

Handing out shot glasses promotes the activity which is destroying thier lives. There is nothing kind, or loving about enabling this mess. Go to the bar and hand them the word of God. Nothing else.

Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
