    Hi John:

The answer to your last question is NO.

Webmaster's requirement for posting in BAPTIST ONLY forums is membership in a Baptist church.

He is the owner and we are his guests. As others have stated, there are plenty of ALL CHRISTIAN forums where one may post.

    Blessings,

My two cents. I served all my life as a baptist minister, in both England and Canada. Owing to my age and the great distance for active participaion in a local baptist church, my wife and I attend an Anglican Church.

I was accepted as a moderator with this understanding, given the circumstances. I doubt if anyone would challenge my baptist stance, anymore than one would challenge a solitary missionary serving abroad where no baptist church exists.

I remain an ordained baptist minister whilst worshipping in a local church other than baptist. Should the Webmaster request that I not post in designated baptist sections, I would be very disappointed, but I would certainly respect his right to make that decision.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Jim: That is exactly why you are allowed to post in BO forums. Webmaster has made 3-4 exceptions since he started the BB and they were all due to unavoidable circumstances such as yours.

    Yes, Sue,

I was confirming the fairness of the Webmaster on this site. When I needed chastisement, he gave it, and I accepted it. I would not want anyone thinking that Webmaster was in anyway discriminating, unfair and unreasonable.

On the other hand, I am decidedly baptist and do not in any way attempt to discredit the baptist viewpoint.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Sue, with all due respect, where does it actually state "membership in a Baptist church"? If that is what is implied, than the Webmaster needs to change the User Agreement and the Posting Rules.

In my line of work, I spend most of my day attempting to remove assumptions and implied statements. It would be beneficial for all if this was stated more clearly.

In my town there are several churches that are members of the SBC. But by their names, you would never know it. One is called a "community church" while another is called a "chapel". Baptist doesn't show up in either of their names. The community church is a seeker friendly type church - rock music, very lite on bible teaching, etc... The chapel on the other hand is a hardcore 5 point Calvinist church. They are as different as night and day - even the church governments are different. The only thing that would makes them "Baptist" is that they both immerse in water for baptism and are both members of the SBC.

Would members from either of these churches be allowed to post here? Technically they are Baptist since each church belongs to the SBC, yet I am sure that many people going to these churches don't even realize they are Baptist!

What I am getting it as that without a statement of faith (and practice) as to what a "Baptist" is, it will be very difficult for people to identify with or what a Baptist really is - which is sad that this is the case in this day and age. :(

I just found out that Webmaster will soon be making a 'clarifying' change to the User Agreement and the Posting Rules.
