My wife and I are taking a vacation next month, driving around California and Arizona.
The only place I know for sure we'll be on a Lord's Day in San Francisco so obviously we'd like to find a good church there to visit.

My first choice would be a Reformed Baptist church, but it seems that there isn't one. So does anyone know of a good non-charismatic church there where the Gospel is preached faithfully?

The good Squire has lived most of his life in the Bay Area. I am sure he will have some excellent recommendations for you. :)

Outside the eight years, I spent in the service and college. I've lived here all my life. As for your question, Martin, I can recommend Hamilton Square Baptist Church. It's located at 1212 Geary BLVD. Which is the northwest corner of Geary Blvd. and Franklin Street (a block west of Van Ness Avenue). The 38 Geary bus runs from downtown (Union Square) and stops right at the front door.

Redwood City is about a half hour drive from San Fran. I know of a solid Calvinist church in the area.

Evang, when have you been to San Francisco? Redwood City on a Sunday morning is more like 45 minutes to an hour. And have you checked out the Beliefs section HSBC website? I don't think you'll find anything objectionable at least of a single Sunday. If Martin was moving here, that would be another matter.

Let me add, it's more about making Martin and his wife's visit to my hometown pleasurable. It's not about any antipathy towards the church you refer to. Here in San Francisco, we are surrounded by evangelistic pagans. So, we can ill afford such in-fighting.

And I've lived in San Francisco and Northern San Mateo County for 63. And I've run into folks from back East who have no idea as to distances and drive times. So, my question. Add to that, Martin may or may not be driving. (I wouldn't as we drive on the right and he's used to driving on the left.) So, I assume he's taking public transportation.

My other question what in HSBC's Beliefs section does not make them a good candidate for a Sunday morning visit.

Martin may also visit the website 9 Marks and do a church search for churches in San Francisco. I found 6 although none are Baptist, they are all Calvinist.

They are not a Calvinist church. I am familiar with this church
I will also add that this is a Fundamentalist Baptist Church. Martin may not want to attend one of those.

Evan could save much typing effort by simply posting, "Calvinist churches good, all others bad, Fundamentalist churches really bad."

I don't know, but I'm currently trying to find a good Reformed Baptist church in Florida and everybody I asked suggested that I go to RTS' website, as they have a church locator there.

Turns out, the church they recommended was right across the street from our new house down there.

Maybe that would help you, too.

Yes, HSBC is a Fundamental Baptist church. Doctrinally, it stands where it's stood since it was organized in 1881. Have you ever visited the church?

I have heard many of his sermons and used to date a girl who was a member there. He's great for Fundamentalist but I am not fundamentalist and neither is Martin. Martin would be better off going to 9 marks and finding a Calvinist church.

    Missing antecedent alert.

    Who is "he"?

The only people mentioned in this thread have been SqR, MM and his wife, you, and a girl you dated.

    Please clarify.

I assume he is referring to David Innes. HSBC's senior pastor for the last forty years. Check out HSBC's website for some of his messages.

If Martin and his wife were moving here permanently, I would tend to agree with you. However, he's looking for a Sunday's fellowship.

Then he can go to 9marks.org and find a Calvinist church.

I tend to agree with Rolfe. Why the push for a Calvinist church?
