However, if you want to use that standard then I guess Obama is a great president heading into office since he has a 78% approval rating.

 

Nope, but I did. I said if we're going to use popularity as a standard for presidents then so far Obama is going to be great.

I was in from 12/16/80 to 12/16/92. I didn't think so highly of the Reagan days since I had to send most of my check home to support the family. Dad's Church struggled so bad in those days he had to take a second job plus put use the money I sent home to keep the family off the streets. Reagan did give the military pay increases and new equipment but when you simultaneously cut taxes you raise the deficit. Can't make everybody happy.

 

My bitterness is not in helping out, in fact I counted it a blessing to be able to help.

I'm just saying I am not of the camp who believes Reganomics was all that great.

Now if you want to discuss Carter, those were even tougher times with record breaking inflation but he inherited that from Ford (you know, from the Hoover party). Carter raised interest rates to 21% which was not popular at the time but is now credited for slowing inflation.
