What's the message of Jesus (not the so-called "Way of the Master")?

"Repent, for the kingdom of God/the heavens is at hand."

    and

    "Follow Me..."

We need to call people to repentance (biblically, a change of mind - thinking a new though - giving up our old way of thinking/living and doing something new) and active faith (discipleship) to Christ.

We are calling them into the Kingdom of God (where God is King over their lives). We are not authorized to ask people to fix up their lives before they can enter into the Kingdom. They enter as they are and God will work with them to make them what they are called to be.

Demanding that someone fix up their life before inviting them into the Kingdom is a distortion of the gospel. Those who are captive to sin - especially of a sexual nature - usually can't imagine changing, so demanding that they desist from that sin as a provision of coming to Christ creates a huge barrier to faith for those who are sincere.

Of course, all of this assumes that the evangelist is going to work with the one who has made a commitment to connect them with a loving community of faith that has an effective program of discipleship that results in transformation - something that is shockingly rare these days.
