Thanx to everyone who responded. Some updates....

Down to one serving of meat a day. Fruit and juice for breakfast, a salad with no dressing and lots of garbanzo beans and green peas for lunch, and e sensible dinner. I now drink at least six cups of water a day, and that is a new thing for me.

I've had some recent gout attacks but they don't come close to the severity I'm used to having. Now they only seem annoying. Before it was probably the most pain I can remember. Especially an attack in the ankles.

I still enjoy a pint of European Lager every night. But I do have a better grip on a healthier diet. And so far, so good.

Take a look at tart cherry extract. I had gout attacks in my left big toe and they were excruciating. I was on allopurinol daily. I lost 100 lbs last year and went off my meds. My doctor suggested tart cherry extract because it shows promise in lowering uric acid levels. Ask your doctor about it.

It's odd that meat doesn't seem to trigger the gout in me and Dad like it's supposed to. I think cured meats like bacon and country ham have brought on symptoms before, and I pigged out on oysters on the half shell one time and was down for a week, but normal meat eating doesn't seem to bother me (us). But then I DO drink lots of water, and tea.

Cokes (Dr. Pepper, and Root Beer) eat me alive. Have had gout from all over the feet to one attack in the hand. Pork gets me, but other meats are not so bad. Also don't let your kids pop your toes, for some reason that or foot massages tell the acid to move to another location and latch on. I take no meds, perhaps I need to start. Yes it hurts, sometimes to the point of not wanted to get out of bed.
