President Obama has been "AWOL" in negotiations over the economic stimulus package, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday in a scathing rebuke of the new president.

The South Carolina Republican told FOX News that Obama has not been providing leadership, and he criticized the president for giving TV interviews and writing an editorial touting the package, rather than addressing the complaints of lawmakers.

I just looked over the package a little. Someone explain to me how new sod for the capital or high-speed DSL coverage stimulates the economy.

I did not vote for him but I really want him to be the strong leader this country needs, this spending bill is nothing more than democrat spending as usual.

Then he could beef up his inflated speculation of new jobs.

Looks like the honeymoon is over for Obama. The Democrats are loathe to pass a bill in the Senate without some Republican support and that support seems to be lacking without removing some serious pork from the stimulus package.

In the debates against McCain, Obama was praised for being calm and cool. Now calm and cool is looking more like "aloof".

If the good senator, and his sugar daddy senator M, had been a little less accommodating several years ago, we might not be in quite as big a mess as we are today.

If Rs are gonna be D lite, then the Ds are gonna rule. This last election proved that. (After all, why settle for an imitation when you can have ther real thing?)

Not sure which version you read but the sod was taken out a while back. So was the contraceptives but they still seem to be GOP talking points.

DSL is an investment in the future. We have parts of this country still not on broadband. I believe it's a good technological infrastructure investment.

You may have spoken too soon. Looks like the Democrats had a good meeting tonight and I believe Obama is bringing in the straggling Liberals tonight. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Yeah. I'm reading conflicting reports as to what is going on, which probably means negotiations are going on. We'll see where it all comes out.

I believe the anger he harbors, so eloquently expressed by his former mentor Jeremiah Wright, is beginning to show through.

As I said elsewhere I believe O'bama is showing his true colors and it does not bode well for the Republic.

I'm liking what I see. He still has a good approval rating. I guess that would make the GOP upset...

It's called stimulation spending and help to those who are suffering in this crises. I can careless about giving money to the arts but I like the idea of extending unemployment benefits. For that matter, I would like to see them extend the food stamp program also. Those are bucks you can count on to be spent.

More GOP talking points... I've heard this one a lot of times.

You are correct some of the stuff is old Liberal wishes but the idea is this is a good time to spend on the things like building bridges, weatherizing public buildings etc...

Then there is that large portion of the bill that will extend unemployment benefits, give medical, give to the states who are laying off and cutting budgets...

Oh well looking through the bill it is correct.

    the correct word is "most"

Why is now a good time? Why not before this?

All in all you have only mentioned a very small portion of the bill.

And as the American People find out more and more about exactly what is in this bill they are rejecting it. This bill will cause the defeat of the Dems in the next election.
