The #1, most effective, universally applicable safety is education. Remove the mystery and educate kids. That will drastically reduce accidental shootings.

I did not have a safe, or bother using trigger locks, until I started dealing with the state child and protective services. We were in the running to adopt one our nieces. Them state law required me to make some changes. The foster family adopted the baby, but I have kept the safety measures. My boys are well educated. Between my instruction, their grandpa's instruction (he was a drill instructor in the Corp and knows how to run a range), and hunter's safety courses they have been through the lecture ringer...and intense practical lessons. My concern is not my own kids, but their friends.

Consider a good ole Georgia Red Nosed Pitbull.....great dogs for security & you can go boar hunting with them & they will pull them down (guaranteed)!!!

LOL We have a black lab border collie mix. She has fully adopted the family and has been known to even alert me when strangers are at the neighbors. She's also "daddy's girl" and has to go for ride in my truck at least once a day.

She loves to chase ducks. If I had the money I'd have her trained.

Yeah, our kid has that going on, as well. I think federal regs kick in if you use your home for any kind of business where kids are involved.

For me, I don't see having kids around as a reason to disarm.

Im sorry to hear about your son Curtis. Im sure that your responsible with guns but Ive lost friends that I know were equally competent with firearms who got depressed & so killed others & then themselves. I take the position that its better to be safe than sorry. No disrespect to your opinion.

You can do that yourself if she has it in her. Does she like the water?

He was Phillis' son, actually. When we met she had two, i had one.

Billy Poole was considered by many to be the best free-style back-country skier thay had ever seen, even Warren Miller had filmed him. And he still had the accident.

Then there is always a shotgun.....Id recommend a pump. That sliding action noise would scare anybody.

Personally, I think I'll order me an AR 15 and a couple thousand rounds immediately. Why?

Because I have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

    Pretty simple.

We have an AR-15 specialty store here. I heard they are pretty well sold out of rifles and parts.

I'm in good shape, even without an AR-15.
Since it looks like God is keeping us here a bit longer I think I will start unpacking.....beginning with my reloading gear.

I use a gun safe for all my handguns...except the one I carry or keep by my bed.

It is not the guns themselves keep in mind. But it is how we use guns. Either for safety or for foolish reasons. As I propose background checks on all those who purchase the guns. To make sure that they are not put into the wrong hands.

I would keep locks on them and to take out all the bullets and hide them for safe keeping. As far too many accidents and tragedies happen due to not hiding them well and safe enough. And keeping locks or a combination on them. That only the person knows and not fall into the wrong hands of those that would hurt innocent people.
