    Context...

2Now I commend you(B) because you remember me in everything and(C) maintain the traditions(D) even as I delivered them to you. 3But I want you to understand that(E) the head of every man is Christ,(F) the head of a wife[a] is her husband, and(G) the head of Christ is God. 4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, 5but every wife[b] who prays or(H) prophesies(I) with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same(J) as if her head were shaven. 6For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. 7For a man ought not to cover his head, since(K) he is the image and glory of God, but(L) woman is the glory of man. 8For(M) man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9Neither was man created for woman, but(N) woman for man. 10That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.[c] 11Nevertheless,(O) in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; 12for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And(P) all things are from God. 13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16(Q) If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do(R) the churches of God.

This was clearly a cultural issue in the church at Corinth. The key being a few verses up just prior to this...

31So, whether you eat or drink, or(AT) whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32(AU) Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to(AV) the church of God, 33just as(AW) I try to please everyone in everything I do,(AX) not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

Your concern should be about the conviction you claim to have. If you are under conviction why are you not doing something about it? The part about the job should not come into play when you are under conviction. What if they required long hair and you were under conviction to cut it? Would you deny the Lord or obey man?

Bit judgemental - surely convictions should be tested. Just because you have a feeling about something, it doesn't necessarily make it absolutely true, and it doesn't mean you shouldn't seek guidance.

Very wise: I've felt convicted before only to find out it was false having been seeded by false teaching. There was a point in my life where I was convicted that the KJV was the only Bible to be use based on teaching I received while attending a particular church. How wrong I was. I was once convicted that listening to rock music was wrong because I was taught that it propagated demonic influences in my life. Again, how wrong I was. Now, I try not to despise prophecy but I do try to test it to see if it is real or not.

There's a man who lives down the road from me who wears a dress in public every now and then. He's got some issues. Real issues.

I think if that's your conviction and that's what your conscience is telling you to do, then you should get a haircut. But I hope that you don't do it for the wrong reasons or impose the idea that all men must have short hair on others.

The Bible never says that long hair is a sin or is wrong and the length of a man's hair is never dictated by scripture, but is mostly cultural.

For instance, while my hair is relatively short, a man in the early 1950's would probably consider it to be very long, while a man fifty years before that would consider it to be very short.

"...isn't a Biblical value" isn't a very clear reason. What, specifically, about long hair do you believe is not a Biblical value?

John, along with others have stated that long hair is not a Biblical issue. Now, back in Post # 15 Wimman did give us this verse: 1 Cor 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

Of course, this is the verse all the "fundies used back in the '60's

We must admit there is a Biblical Standard. However, the question is How long is too long.
Personally, I still get a GI haircut - (NO, Not a Marine buzz )
So what standard should we hold to in regards to I Cor 11:14. Is the Bible telling us to get a Marine Buzz, keep it off ears, keep it shorter then your wife or what???
(hurry with an answer, I need to know my conviction by Sunday, so I can preach against the improper kind of mens hair cuts!)

Men in the Middle East wear gowns and have long hair tucked under their head covering.

I know some bald men who would love to have hair,,period!

    Cheers,

    Jim
