Sometimes raising your hands can actually take you out of your comfort zone in church which can be a good thing. Should we feel embarassed because we are worshipping God by raising our hands? Absolutley not! I wish more people were not ashamed to worship with their hands raised, or even in a time of prayer to get down and kneel on the floor. Give all of your life to God, dont hold back in worship or prayer because of what others might think!

well I have always Been Southern Baptist
and I will tell you that when we have an emotional praise and worship service I raise both hands in Praise to God and I may even get up and preen a couple of times. If I ever feel led by the the Holy Spirit to get up and do the boot scoot boogie, I will just say I am not going to quench the Holy Spirit!

I would have to disagree. Pentacostals raise their hands, speak as loud as they can, scream, convulse, etc. If someone wants to quietly worship by lifting their hands in their seat it is between them and God. They are not disturbing worship. If someone is so bothered by someone else lifting their hands then they need to focus more on God and less on something they are not used to seeing.

    en·thu·si·asm
Great excitement for or interest in a subject or cause.
A source or cause of great excitement or interest.

Ecstasy arising from supposed possession by a god.
    Religious fanaticism.
[Late Latin enthūsiasmus, from Greek enthousiasmos, from enthousiazein, to be inspired by a god, from entheos, possessed : en-, in; see en–2 + theos, god.

So we show 'enthusiasm' at a basketball game but never in church?

A Psalmist said let the lifting up of his hands be like the evening sacrifice. Paul wanted men everywhere to pray with uplifted hands. Lifting up of hands is scriptural.

Bowing is scriptural. The words most often translated 'worship' might also be traslated as 'prostrate.' Kneeling is scriptural.

Yes, lifting hands is scriptural, but always look at it in context. I think sometimes folks confuse it with what they "Think" worship should look like. If the posture of the heart doesnt reflect the posture of the hands, knees, head, or whatever, then its a moot point anyway.

I am not necessarily a hand raiser--most of my praise to God physically comes through my percussion, which I do use as a physical act of praise.

When I do raise my hands, it is an act of honor to God and recognition to Him for speaking to me through the medium of the song and what He has brought to my attention.

You know, when I was a kid it was considered correct to kneel when prayng in a Baptist or Mothodist church. You always stood when the Scrpture was read.It was common for sermons to last an hour.People even raised thier hands then and shouted Amen when the preacher said something especcially good.

In those days they were talking about the dead formalism of presbytarians and Luthrens and that the anti-christ was going to come from Rome.

We all hold hands to sing the closing song.
I sit over at the side, front by the organ.
I usually end up last one on my row.

I appreciate your opinion, but respectfully - this is what I was speaking of when I said a person would have to ignore scripture to come up with this. Was King David Pentacostal? And what does the raising of hands have to do with it? The Pentacostals have churches with steeples, too - should I have ours removed?

We usually hold hands at the end of the service...I, like SaggyWoman, just hate it. I'm usually very careful what I do with my hands on Sunday mornings. I remember once in the middle of one service I SNEEZED into my hand  . I paniced! I was relieved at the end of the service when we were not asked to hold hads ;) .

I do not raise hands either. I don't have a problem with it, unless I'm standing next to someone, that has raised hands...and is swaying to the music. there were quite a few times I had to duck [IMG] ! Neadless to say, I watch who I sit next to....

Our Pastor has us stand for the reading of God's word. [IMG] We also hold hands at the end of the service, stretching across 3 aisles.
