...that's right! Today's the seventy-fifth birthday of Spam. It's been a staple for many Americans, for 75 years, and I am one who enjoyed Spam in several different dishes as a child each week. One dinner was the Spam Roast. My parents stuck cloves in it, poured a little Ketchup over it, and cooked it in the oven. Add some parsley boiled potatoes and a veggie, and you have a preety good meal.

Another, my personal favorite was the "Zim-burger!" Ground Spam, Velvetta Cheese, onions. Mix these three items together, and spread that stuff [thickly] on an open-faced bun. Cook in the oven [350 degrees] for about three or four minutes or until the cheese appears melted, and a little brown appears on the side of the buns. Make lots of them, because along with potato chips, they go quickly.

Finally, it tastes awesome shred up in an omelette. Add some Mild Cheddar cheese to give it a zesty zing!

So I thought I'd ask each of you to share your favorite Spam memories, thoughts, and recipes.

I love some Spam. Very basic. Just fry it in a little oil and stick it between some bread with a little mustard. DDDDDDDDDDD-Licious!

For the last six months or so when I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ 1965-67 there was such an influx of enlisted GI's (My Wing's mission was to train the officers that already had their pilot rating to fly the F-4C before these pilots would be sent to SEA.), that they moved "the ones they could trust" off base to a garden-style apartment complex that was originally contracted to house those officer/pilots and their families while my Wing (4453d Combat Crew Training Wing [TAC]) trained them.

Since single E-3s - E-4s weren't paid more than $70 -$90/mo back in those days, I couldn't afford even a USED car. Thus, on weekends especially, I had no means of getting back on base to use its "dining facilities."

You better believe that SPAM (along w/ peanut butter) comprised a HUGE portion of my diet!!

Moving this to . . man, I don't know where. But NOT in a "Baptist Discussion" area!!

Do we have a "who-in-the-world-cares" forum?

Now, now, Dr. Bob - you're talking a staple of the Pacific Island cuisine. Press some sticky white rice together, top it with an egg and a slice of fried Spam, and wrap a piece of seaweed around it to hold it together, and voila - musubi! Not to mention the bento (breakfast or lunch box), with rice, spam, egg, maybe a red hot dog and some chicken pieces, topped off with soy sauce....
