Would like input from some who know the school NOW. I had experience with a couple students (children of missionaries we support) who attended ABC in North Carolina.

Gals were all taught emphasis on home ec, music, church ministries. Guys were all taught some basic bible and pastor/youth/mission type. While other classes were offered, these were the BIG PUSH - to prepare for 100% full-time ministry.

Is this STILL reflective of the program or have they moved on into a "real, complete college program"? (Not putting them down, but the former was more of the traditional "bible institute" or "Training school" approach and a far cry from the heavy biblical languages, English, History, etc.

    Thanks.

My son graduated in 2000. Your memories are still about accurate, but he did get a HEAVY dose of languages and is basically fluent in Biblical Greek and has a working knowledge of Hebrew.

It is still primarily a ministry school.

Sounds like Maranatha Baptist Cible College in the late 70s. (The late Cedarholm/Hollowood era)

Lots of parallels, only weak on the academic end.

Don Scovill, music guru at Maranatha, went to Ambassador and taught there until retirement. His son Todd is now the music man there I belive. Hence the parallel!

you're right Dr.Bob; Todd is the head of the Music Dept. now. He left our church a few yrs. back to work with his dad, being groomed to step in and take over when Don retired. Also, we have had several young evangelists stay in our missions house when passing through the area. Our pastor always asked them to speak on Sun.eve, that is until three of them in a row used the same illustration claiming it as their own experience as had Dr. Comfort when he spoke here prior to them.

The neat quality about Dr. Cedarholm is that you can't imitate his pulpit style or take his illustrations as your own.

Hello! I am a student at ABC. You are right about our stand on the ministry. ABC is a ministry school teaching young people how to have a heart for the Lord and for others. Also, Don Scovill still is the head of the music Dept. down here. Todd is still working under him. I think that Ambassador is a compete college in it's own respect. When Dr. Comfort started ABC, he wanted it known as a "preachers training school" and without doubt it is! I have never been on a college campus that has the ferver for the Lord that is down here at Ambassador.

That is very interesting, because according to our pastor Todd himself told him that Don was retiring and he was taking over. And that was over a year ago.

Hmm, student as ABC on one hand, second hand evidence on the other. I wonder who is the head of music at ABC? My son, a recent ABC grad who stays in touch with folks there also thinks that Doc Scovill is still in charge.

Well I have nothing but love and respect for old "Scube". He was a great influence and mentor in my college years. Sure he has done a lot of good for the college there.

Know that circuitrider sang in his choirs at Pillsbury and Maranatha, too.

Trust me, Dr. Scovill is still working down here at ABC. (I just got out of class with him an hour ago) I have the joy to travel with his ensemble. Doc is such a great blessing to me. He is one of the few music men I know, whose main goal is to see people saved. Most of todays music people have turned to entertainment. Doc has not. AMEN!!
I hear plenty of stories about his groups from Pillsbury and Maranatha. He loved the choirs he had and talks about about them alot.

And ask Dr. Scovill about "Bob Griffin". I was his right-hand man for many years at both Pills and Maranatha.

But don't believe anything he says about me. Or about himself!

Todd was on staff at my home church for several years, so I had no reason to check to see if my pastor knew what he was talking about when he made that particular statement. Maybe he misunderstood what Todd was telling him, I don't know!

Just had a group from ABC at our church Sunday. Dr. Scovill is still there - Alive and Kicking.
(I forgot to ask them if he still has his distinctive throat clearing.)
