We have a Gateway laptop, Win XP, that heeds to be defragged.

Is it better to use the built-in Windows defrag, or a third-party like Advanced System Care Pro?

I've always used the Windows programs. I once tired one that was supposed to be very fast but I did not notice a lot of difference. I tend to have tons of stuff on my drives so?? Others are supposed to be bigger and better but I have no reason to think so.

The native WIndows defrag utility is just fine. Prior to running a defrag, be sure to run an error-check first. Also, I prefer running the defrag in safe mode, but that's by no means compulsory.
