So a man is to show off his wife??? Because that brings honor and glory to Christ?? I am not sure you are making sense here.

The point of 1 Cor 11 is about authority. A man is subject to Christ; the woman is subject to the man. The woman is to have a sign of authority. That is the point. The veil is a cultural thing, not an eternal thing.

Please sisters, cover up your glory.
    </font>
[/QB]
Headship is eternal as you know.

No where in the text does Paul say anything about culture, no where. The angels don't go by culture, they go by the Word, as do Christians.

I am not a citizen of this world, I am passing through, I don't belong here. I don't check with Hollywood to see what the latest fashions are. I check with the Word. The Word says, "If she won't cover she may as well cut it off or shave it off."

It seems most ladies do this anyway, they chop, they shave and they don't cover.

A man is not showing off anything. The woman covers her head to cover her God-given glory, her hair.

She does this voluntary in obedience to Scripture.

The Word says that the woman is man's glory. I don't know exactly all that entails, maybe my brother Weidertaufen can explain that a bit more.

Needful in what way? Are you advocating the twisting of scripture?
The pity is, yes you do understand. You've taken part in these bashing fests many times.

Every topic about the headcovering is locked and I find it important. And why does it bother you so much? A few of us enjoy discussing this issue.

    [/qb]
I read an article somewhere that said, "If you don't know what the headcovering means put one on and enter a room full of feminists. You will know immediately what the headcovering means." [/QB]
Amen, that is so true.

Your the one who brought the modren world into the conversation then jump someone for replying to you.

Ah, this would be because of the bashing of non veiled women and all the garbage we've been accused of, all the foul names we've been called in the past by the veiled women. And mainly becasue of the out of context scripture. As has already been pointed out on this thread and the others.

    [/qb]
In modern American culture today, a veil does not indicate submission.[/qb]
I have seen otherwise.

    [/qb]
It is looked at as backwards and old-fashioned.[/qb]
Amen. I don't see the problem.

    [/qb]
It is not looked at the same way. I don't mean that to be offensive to any veil-wearing women here. But wearing a veil today communicates something entirely different than submission to authority.[/qb]
Only according to you.

    [/qb]
If you doubt me, just go ask people in the mall or in a store what they think when they see a woman wearing a veil. Then report back to us. [/QB]
They always see it as something religious and many times see it as a sign of submission.

Amen Granny! Even the military has this custom, although I am not sure where they get it from. But, I am thinking it probably came from when men removed their hats for prayer. </font>
Wrong, in the military, a man removes his hat anytime he enters a building (any building) and puts it back on when he steps back outdoors. A hat is for protection from the elements and is only used out of doors. Protection from the elements is obviously not needed when you have a roof over you head.

I for one have no interest in certain topics here as well. But, I ignore these threads as they have no interest to me.

    "donnA~I tho't everyone knew I do NOT advocate Scripture-twisting...

What I don't understand is why these folks can't have the same freedom as others. If they had started a topic on "Thongs", it'd be a hoot.

The only bashing I ever see is directed towards the innocent ones.

I spent 8 years in the military myself and I can't remember exactly what the teaching was. Thanks for sharing.

    That's ok Granny,
that's ok friend. Let's get back to the topic at hand. Why should we wear headcoverings?

I can tell you that my life has changed since wearing one. I miss having my hair out at times, but I would not go out without one.

At the risk of repeating myself:

1 Corinthians 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

Without seeing the previous verses, this verse is taken completely out of context. The previous verses are: But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." The order is God is above Christ; Christ is above the man, and the man above the woman. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head (Christ).

The previous verses make it clear that the "head covering" is a symbol for headship. A man who prays without authority dishonors Christ. A women who does the same without her spouse's blessing dishonors her spouse. The examples become more clear when you take into consideration the customs of headwear at that time. It doesn't say men and women can't pray pr prophesy, nor does it require or discourage men and women in their head attire. Since head attire customs today are not what they were then, the context of this verse is often difficult to discern. One thing, however, is clear. This verse is NOT intented to require women from keeping their heads covered.

If a woman wants to cover her head out of custom, respect, or choice, that is her biblical right, but there is no scriptural requirement for such.

Well, sorry people. I never seen that rule. They can put on lock on this topic or throw me off the board, I'll be praising my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ all the while.
