For years I have heard how Baptist preachers LOVE their fried chicken (as well as other foods). How physically fit and healthy are our Baptist/Christian leaders? Look at just the few on television....Jerry Falwell, John Bisagno, John Hagee, Paige Patterson, just to name a few. Peruse the preachers at your next conference or convention. Maybe the extra volumn assists in their oratory skills. The number one killer of ministers is heart disease. When was the last time you heard a sermon on the sin of gluttony?
I write this post out of concern NOT of ridicule. To be more like Jesus........WALK.

KP - I agree that our preaching that focuses on the "evils" of alcohol and tobacco is suddenly silent on obesity and glutony.

But hey, I just got off an 8-day cruise and tried HARD to eat a moderate, sensible diet - low in fat, no cholesterol, high fiber.

How much fiber is in 4 lobster tails and a platter of escargot?

oh oh oh you hit a HUGE pet-peeve of mine!!!!

I am an overweight gal, and I have a lot of struggles with overeating.. in fact, just today there was an incedence with a large peice of cake..

but, the very first ifb church I ever went to, the Pastor preached very very hard on homosexuality, drunkards, women leading men.. all stuff that needs to be preached hard against, but the gentlemen who led the choir could not have weighed one pound less than 400 pounds, and the rest of the church was rather hefty as well.. Should someone with a very obvious gluttony problem be allowed to lead anything in a church? Doesnt seem right..

WHy is this sin ignored? seriously.. Nobody wants to even mention it. .. At our churches New Years Eve prayer service this past New Years Eve, I ate myself silly, and so did other people.. Nobody said a word to me like.."Hey Em.. you should watch it"..

It occurred to me that everyone there was engaging in a food orgy...

ok.. Im off of my soapbox, but it makes me upset..

Actually, it's often the opposite - we preach more LOUDLY against sins to which we are most susceptible - to defray attention.

Look at the huge number of ifb preachers who had sermon after sermon about dresses v slacks, mixed swimming, porno mags, etc and then went into adultery with their secretary.

"Methinks he doth protest too much".

A few years ago my wife and I went to a softball tournament for churchs in our area .I looked at my wife and said .I can pick out the Pastors .She said how do you know ? I said their in the worst shape .I was right 90% of the time .The Pastor of our Church is in pretty good shape .He's also a Army Chaplain .And just got back from active duty in Iraq so he would have to be in good shape he's 52 .
