I've asked a question in the Music Ministry section in a thread titled "Advice on cleaning up these lyrics?" I invite everybody to take a look and give their opinions. Might be interesting!

    Hi Mike,

Being a non-PC type guy myself, I'd be inclined to leave it as written.

But I do understand your problem, and if you want to PC-ize the song, the link below has a version that's altered along the lines you suggest. (I believe they substitue "then some" for "the Jews" in the first instance, and "they then" for "the Jews" in the second.)

    Revised Song Version

So you're apparently not the first to notice this difficulty!

Incidentally, what's the tune for this one? Thaxted? Cranham? Or something else?

    Mike --

I would call the other version suggested more
biblically correct than PC, although it still has
some other problems which prevent it from being
completely BC. :) If this is not a problem, it is
    a pretty good rendition.

I just found a snippet of this piece online -- very nice!

If anyone would like to listen, go to the site below and click on RealPlayer or Windows Media under number nine.

    That song, at Tower Records

Great, a socialist website agrees with me!

Of course, these days it's the left that's the new home of antisemitism, so I guess this must be an old site.

But, darn it, I still think the references to Jews are inflamatory and unnecessary. As Catholics (indeed, as Christians) we are called to evangelize the world, and I don't think "the Jews...loved darkness more than light" helps. It's a toughie -- what's PC (bad) and what's reasonable accomodation to 21st century heterogeneous America?

BTW, I'm not the musical brains in this family, my wife is: THE BRAINS

Is Thaxted the movement about 3 minutes into "Jupiter"? (I know it's where Holst lived a large part of his adult life) And I don't know about Cranham at all. Have any sound links to either of them?

Link to horrible midi files of some Holst music:

    Holst at CyberHymnal

"Cranham" is the tune to "In the bleak midwinter," if I remember right.
