Unintelligent Design: The loony right is hammering science harder than ever

While I have always frowned on Creationist tactics and rhetoric in the past; it seems that now even the mention of evolution being a theory and not fact is "teaching religion", and thus an "attack" on science, and "against" the Law. He even laments that a CBS poll showed 55% of Americans believe God created humans, more or less complete, sometime in the last 10,000 years.
They, who got their theory in under the guise of "freedom of religion" now seem to be trying to dictate what others should believe.
And of course, he tells us how to interpret Genesis so that the "days" are really billions of years. I used to want to believe this, but (as Bob will be the first to point out) in the 10 Commandments, God refers back to the days as matters of actual fact, not symbolic metaphor.
Yet, this was a "theological error", and then we are compared to www.geocentricity.com :(

    It is sad.

I think all theories ought to be taught and evidence presented and then let the students make up their minds. I would even mind the theory of geocentricity.com being taught, as long as it, or any other theory were not endorsed by the school. It should be presented as a theory, evidence presented, and then the student does research and makes up their mind. When in Seminary, this is the way many of my profs taught, this is how many of the commentaries are written, and this is how we were taught to write. I wish we could get back to challenging people to use their brains again and think for themselves.

The saddest commentary upon our world today is that the Theory that Moses presented in the first 2 chapters of Genesis has stood the test of time for over 3000 years and has not been disproved. The second saddest commentary is that we are considered "kooky" if we believe the oldest standing theorem upon the beginnings of the universe ...

It is a great example of evolutionism's blunders published to the masses. I love it!

It shows that the true evolutionist can not tolerate intelligent design as anything other then YEC since it contradicts Natural Selection. It shows that a Christian evolutionist must deny Christ the Creator NOT ONLY in what HE SAYS He did in Gen 1-2:3 and Exodus 20:8-11 BUT THEY MUST ALSO deny Christ INTELLIGENCE in His Work no matter how far removed from actual fact in Gen 1!!

How sad -- how "miniscule" their view of Christ the Creator!

    Hi Joseph,

I'm sure you mean no harm in this statement, but we as Christians are not to be "free thinkers" nor promote it. We are to bring into alignment are thoughts with God's Word. We only know the truth because God has revealed it to us.

As far as this entire discussion always goes, my problem is how loosely the term "science" is thrown around in the teachings of Evolution. "Science" means "knowledge". "Knowledge" means "Clear perception of a truth, fact, or subject". Not any theory!

If I had a nickle for every time I heard on the news about "scientist" once believed, but now believe..............over and over again! And they expect us to follow their "fact finding". I'll just stick with Jesus. His words were Truth and unchanging. What He declared 2000 years ago hasn't been debunked or changed from decade to decade.

    God Bless! [IMG]

Actually, when you think of it, since the theory of relativity is generally accepted in science, and it says that no frame of reference in the universe is preferred, then a geocentric view is technically permissible. (though I think this excludes acceleration, and angular momentum, such as a circluar orbit, is considered acceleration). Problem with geocenticism.com is that they are being dogmatic about it, as if just to dispute modern knowledge. Many YEC CHristians, unfortunately, seem to act the same way, and hence the association.

In the article one may laugh at the odd link to geocentric mallarky -- but prior to that one twist -- the entire article on unintelligent design is a gold mine of evolutionisms blunders --

Starting with the 1925 trial that Darrow lost - were the evolutionists LOST, and moving from there to its non-science claims that evilutionism is not a theory but a fact as well as itse affirmation that an evolutionist could never admit to "intelligence" being SHOWN in nature's design!

It makes it IMPOSSIBLE to be a Christian evolutionist much less a "thinking" evolutionist.

    It is a keeper!

I've always wondered why christians can't just believe God when He says he is the creator, not evolution. The first thing God reveals to us about Himself is that He is the creator, if we can't beleive the most elementery can we beleive the need of a savior?

    Excellent point donnA, excellent point!
    "YEA, HATH GOD REALLY SAID----"

1st step is to get you to doubt that God is true, then question His motives for any action you don't agree with. And it's downhill from there

Evolution has got to be right up there with the "indulgences" of the middle ages in it's insidiousness & chipping away at the truth of God.

I strongly disagree with this statement.

No thought police needed here. This type of thinking gives people very shaky foundations. Should we be afraid that if we (or our children) are allowed to think that we'll realize that Christianity is not an intellectual's religion? This is NOT what is meant by "every thought captive".

Because He shows us our position in relationship to our God - we are His creation -- He is not OURS.

That is a huge problem for atheist's so they "need" a highly speculative system of "guesswork" to substitute for God's account of Creation and the origin of ALL life on earth. And the best one that atheists have going today is obviously evolutionism.

    That is the easy part.

The Hard part - is why you find Christians blindly leaping off the cliffs of evolutionism "no matter what the contradiction in science" rather than trusting the much more scientifically consistent word of God! Why adopt an atheist solution that is anti-Gospel and anti-Bible -- even when that system is riddled with gaffs, blunders, flaws and contradictions??

That is the innexplicable part that no one has been able to address so far.

Folks, intelligent design has been thrown out there as some kind of alternative to evolutionary theory but has not yet won its wings as a viable scientific theory. it has proposed no experiments to test its validity, it has merely attempted to define some words in some new ways, introducing for example the phrase "irreducible complexity" - which seems, to most scientists, to depend on our lack of knowledge to prove something - which is a very back handed kind of logic indeed.

We're seeing here arguement by slogan.

Scientists work science by evidence, not by slogan.

God has done a marvelous job in His word of preparing the first chapter of Genesis to be understood initially literally and later symbolically, by letting it be known elsewhere in His word that "a day is as a thousand years". . .

And just because the days represent something, does not mean they don't represent something real, and can therefore be referred to in connection with the 10 commandments, which some seem to think requires days there have to be literal!

Oh well, the church went through the same thing before when science started denying the literal statements of the bible and claim that the earth rotates as the cause of night and day - christianity survived that crisis and God will take us through this one as well.

Evolutionist think we have been here for 7 billion + years? Hummmmmmm then all I can say is the creation story that Moses wrote about must be true if it has lasted such a long time that people are still talking about it today? BTW, was it the evolutionist who say that pharoah's army drowned in 2-6 inches of water?

One more question... were are the letters or books on evolution that were written and date back before Moses' time? (Also courios what language it would be if there are any?)

Calm down, M4h, the earth as a whole is only 4.5 billion years old, so no evolutionist believes we've been here for 7 billion years.

    Feel better now? [IMG]

"Hummmmmmm then all I can say is the creation story that Moses wrote about must be true if it has lasted such a long time that people are still talking about it today?"

Well, people were praying to BAAL before Moses was born so Baal must be real?

Well - that pretty much solves the problem then!

    Thanks!

What about all the blunders made in the article cited in the OP? You know - claims that Darrow actually won something? Claims that evolutionism's doctrines are actually "facts" of science, claims that God leaves no hint of having even half a brain in his workmanship IN nature IN creation IN the living systems HE designed --

(you know - just the little stuff that we pick on).

    PoE,
I was calm~ I acually think the whole evolution stuff is weird! Now the earth might very well have been sitting void with no life for approx. 4.5 billion years. But a building don't get built with out a builder, a painting don't get painted with out a painter, ergo creation didn't get created without a Creator. [IMG] Simple ain't it. [IMG]

Moses wrote about Adam and Eve being created (remember that creation story).......I don't recall anything like (praying to baal) right after Adam was created? ;)
