    Proverbs 13:3

3 He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

I will live by this verse. [IMG]

Those Christians who are so caught up in political activism will ignore that verse and continue to justify themselves and their behavior. Jesus never commanded the church to use the state, Jesus never commanded the church to "change the culture" through politics, Jesus did command loving your enemy, preaching the Gospel, and helping the poor. None of that fits very well with political agendas. The "Christian Right" has made enemies out of the people we are to be reaching with the Gospel and, worse yet, has made them enemies for ALL the wrong reasons. How many sinners will not come to Christ because, thanks to political activism, they think being a Christian means they are a republican? That is a serious question with eternal results. The church, in large part, has become distracted with political activism and that is not how it should be. We should be busy preaching the Gospel and bringing the homosexuals, abortionists, drug dealers, fornicators, murderers, etc, to Christ. Instead we are pushing them away from Christ with our political activism. Jesus NEVER did that! WDJD?? He ate with the tax collectors and the sinners (see Matt 9:10-13, 11:19, etc)! Jesus would not have fit in with the political Christian right wing, like the Pharisee of old, look down their noses at the very people they are to reach with the Gospel! See Matt 23:13-33

Don't get me wrong. I agree with the "Christian Right" on basic doctrine. I agree that abortion, homosexuality, fornication, etc, are sins. I agree that those who practice such things will not enter heaven (1Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:19-21, Rev 21:8,27). However politics is not the solution to those problems (on large or small scale). The answer is the Gospel. Change peoples hearts via the Gospel and their actions will change as a result. Christian political activism ignores the power of the Gospel in favor of a cheap substitute.

Christians should vote, pay our taxes, honor and pray for our leaders even if we disagree with their politics and policies (Rom 13:7, 1Tim 2:1-2, Titus 3:1-2), and we should call sin what it is...SIN. However we should understand that the Gospel is the ONLY answer to people's problems, and then practice what we understand by preaching the Gospel instead of politics (Lk 24:44-49).

    In Christ,
    Martin.

"You posted this in the politics forum? Where people love to debate???"

==The issue here is politics. More directly it is the political activism of some Christians. Since the Bible IS our source for everything in life what it says about the goal of the church, politics, and how to change society is very important. If the Biblical message on these matters is ignored here then Christians are wasting their time discussing these matters. In fact I would argue that Christians involved in political activism are wasting their time and resources! The message of the Christian Right is as ineffective as it is unBiblical. John MacArthur has rightly stated:

"Moralism aims at an unattainable goal: the improvement of society without any transformation of people's souls. The leopard cannot change his spots. Sinners cannot reform themselves...All the Pharisees' efforts to moralize people were counterproductive...Furthermore, there is no New Testament model for political action. Jesus didn't try to overthrow slavery. The apostles didn't organize protests against the immorality, inequity, abuse tax system, or even the ruthless persecution of Christians by the Roman Empire. Nothing in Scripture suggests we are called to such a task" -Can God Bless America?

As Biblical as this message is it will be widely ignored by Christians who are willfully trapped in political activism (on the right or left). Even though they claim to believe the Bible, and surely many do, on this one subject they seem to ignore what it says. Why? Because political activism appeals to the flesh and that makes us feel good. Let's face it the worldly/fleshly method of political activism is alot easier than loving your enemy, helping the poor, reaching out to the dirty, lost, and hell bound sinners with the Gospel.

    Martin.

Martin, just fyi, I am not political at all. I try to stay out of it. I live right here with it and know how phony and dirty it is. That was not the point of my post.

Marcia, the post was directed at me. I have insinuated that James should spend more time with his bible. You can read our exchanges here & there, there's plenty of them.

Remember Jesus did addresss the politicians--the Pharisees. Paul addressed the politicians in Acts.

The crooks in society would like more to be that way. We are as a mustard seed.

No, James. You call scolarships rediculous, then complain about the responses you get. You get verses from people, then accuse them of adding to scripture. You send people PMs with the title "Don't bother writing back". You get advice from people, then yell at them for giving it to you. You do as much attacking as anyone here, and more crying than anyone I have ever seen.
