Talk to me about HBU - from some who know.

Is it just a glorified KJVonly "hyles" type school?

Is it truly a "university" like BJU, or just a college?

Why would a TR school matter?

Size? Majors? NOT looking for slick promo or website, but from those who have attended or have kids attend from your church, etc.

    Thanks. [IMG]

    Try answering my questions, please.

Is it a University? From what you listed, it is not.

Is it KJVO? From what you listed, I am not sure! (but probably)

Is it accredited? From what you listed, it is not.

Is it Eastern Catholic or Western Catholic? You say Eastern (Byzantine). Okay. WHY is that better in your opinion. Both are far from "Baptist"!

Askjo, the question Dr. Bob asked has nothing to do with a school's textual stand. The question is How large and varied are its academic offerings?A university (at least in the these United States, Oxford and Cambridge are as usual a different matter.)by definition is organized into multiple colleges teaching different academic disciplines. Whereas, colleges are organized into departments and divisions. Just because a school calls itself a university doesn't make it one. For the first ten or so years of its operation until it grew to sufficent size, BJU styled itself as Bob Jones College.
Hmm, Dr. Bob, I think he is refering to "manuscript types" not denominations.

    You misunderstand what I mean.

    the Alexandrian Schools are:

    Dallas Theological Seminary
    Liberty University
    Cedarville University
    Bob Jones University
    Oral Roberts University
    and more....

    The Antiochan Schools are:

    Heritage Baptist University
    Fairhaven Baptist College
Hyles-Anderson college (I do not recommend)
    Pensacola Christian College
Pensacola Bible Institite (I do not recommend)
    Trinity Baptist College
    And more....

Thanks for the input. Don't mean to sound so obtuse.

    (1) A university must have a number of separate colleges joined together. HBU is not, by their own website, such.

    (2) Colleges/Seminaries (which HBU actually is) in Indiana would be accredited by the North Central Association. I likewise did not see this.

    (3) Which Greek text do they use? Always causes me to chuckle that some people hold high the Greek from the Eastern Orthodox tradition (called the Byzantine family or Antioch, but all Greek Orthodox) and disdain the Greek from the Western Catholic tradition (called Roman or Alexandrian, but all Roman Catholic). You choice - they are all Catholic (east or west).

It seems that Heritage Baptist University is a tiny school just barely surviving. One source on the Internet estimated the enrollment as 85. The web site of HBU somehow does not give important information as to enrollment or accreditation. The web site is distincly inferior in regard to vital information that a prospective student might want to know. Clearly it is unlikely that any worthwhile accreditation would be awarded to a school with 85 students.

HBU may be a great little school, but one would never be able to find it out from that website. They are not very forthcoming with information normally proudly displayed on school websites, such as Admission requirements, Accreditation, etc. It makes one wonder if they are ashamed of something, or just need to hire a good webmaster.
