Who are your favorite heroes of the Bible, and why?

I like Gideon myself, because he was threshing wheat in a winepress, whe and angel of the Lord came to him and called him a "mighty man of valor!" He was a mighty warrior and didn't even know it at the time!

I like Simon Peter. He was hardheaded but tenderhearted. Main reason is that he was fulltime in the ministry and kept his witts about him, even with a mother-in-law [IMG]

When you say heroes of the Bible, I take it to mean that the Lord Jesus is exempted. In that case I think of Joseph. Dispite the treatment he received at the hand of his brothers, when it came time to exact vengence (as Prime Minister he could probably have had them killed or jailed), he choose to forgive and love them anyway. Isn't that most like The Lord Himself?

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Barzillai - Supported the man and work of God. When David was in trouble (2 Sam 19:31ff) he was there. He was 80 years old and still going full blast for God.

And when David was restored to power and wanted to honor his old friend, Barzillai said "No - take my son instead and give HIM the honor and position."

Doesn't get better than that for "heroes". [IMG]

Dr Bob, this is a good one. Have you ever done a sermon or a lesson on this one?

Hannah and Moses for the same reason when they were recievng grief and harsh words by family and they chose to hold their tongue and let God speak and defend them.
