The female security guard acted bravely while the male guards stood frozen according to shooting victim and combat veteran at New Life. So much for you male supremacists who don't like women taking the lead in church. The pastor credits this woman for saving hundreds of lives by acting decisively. Thank God for this woman. Excerpt

Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman and an armed male church security guard who was there with his gun drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his weapon.
"Give me your handgun. I've been in combat, and I'm going to take this guy out," Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard. "He kept yelling, 'Get behind me! Get behind me!' He wouldn't hand me his weapon, but he wouldn't do anything."

There was an additional armed security guard there, another man, who also didn't fire, Bourbonnais said.

Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.
"First, I called him 'Coward' then I called him 'S---head' " Bourbonnais said. "I probably shouldn't have been saying that in church."

That's when the shooter pointed one of his guns at Bourbonnais and fired, he said.

Bourbonnais ducked behind a hollow, decorative pillar and was hit in the arm by a bullet and fragments of the pillar.

At about that moment, a female guard with a drawn handgun turned a corner and walked toward the gunman and yelled "Surrender!" Bourbonnais said.
The gunman pointed a handgun at the woman and fired three shots, Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the gunman pressing off round after round.

The female guard fired off about a dozen shots.
After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked the woman, who has only been identified as a volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and focused.

    Bourbonnais said she replied:
"I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time."

This is an excellent story. You were actually on my mind today, I was praying you weren't involved...

Thanx for posting this. Who knows what could have happened if this was not stopped. This woman's actions are indeed heroic.

Excellent story. I would suspect God had this lady security guard and Mr. Bourbonaiss there for that specific purpose. This wasn't chance--- it was God at work.

Thanks, Brother. I was not, thank the Lord; but I grieve for those who were. The person who killed and injured was the son of a prominent physician and is said to have "hated Christians". New Life has been through the ringer in the last year. That fellowship needs all of our prayers. I know several members of the church there as associates and friends.

Police say he was the shooter in both Arvada and Colorado Springs. CLICK HERE

Denver TV is showing a live press conference from Colo Spgs. The woman, Jeanne Assam is speaking and extended her condolensces to the families of the victims and the gunman. She is telling her story to the media.

She was asked if she is a heroine, and she says the credit goes to God, expecially since the firepower was on the side of the heavily armed gunman.

FYI -- The Bible's teaching on women taking the lead in church has nothing to do with security guards. So there is no problem here. Thankfully she acted. It is a sad day when we even need security guards in church.

Some here have extended it to political leadership of secular governments. In any case, this young woman is a hero who saved many lives by her decisive action. Sad that the two teen girls lost their lives.

That's not a good use of Scripture, IMO. I would reject that since Scripture is talking about church.

Yes indeed. It is truly sad and heartbreaking to hear these kinds of stories, whether it is at a shopping mall, a school, or a church. It is a sad commentary on life in modern America.

Why were the guards at the Church? Do they have trouble there a lot? Is it normal for Churches to have guards in them? I am just asking because I live I a small town. We do not have guards in Church.

It is a mega church that draws lots of attention, especially since the Haggard affair. The female guard is also a church member. The staff had added security yesterday because of the YWAM shootings in Arvada. Who'da thunk the gunman from Arvada would make his way to New Life?

My city was named #4 most violent so I don't feel confortable if I don't see a guard by every bus stop! I know a few churches in my city like Allen Temple Baptist who employ guards to 'filter' out the congregation I guess and to protect their high-tech equipment used for their ministires, schools, and services...they're sorta like the Vatican where you need premission to even walk to the sanctuary from the parking sidewalk!

I am a deputy and we leave our weapons in the car when we go to church. This makes you think we need to keep them with us. We do not carrie our weapons into Church our of reverence.

Yea, I will keep it with me in the future, but it is bad when you have to carry a gun in the Lords house.

I'd hate to be the gunman who walked into just about any church around here.

Wasn't King David forbidden to even build a Church for an even more extreme reason?

I don't think they had "churches" in David's time.

exactly and David wasn't allowed to see the first Church his own son built because he thought and acted upon violence (&sex) too much....
