2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is blasting President Bush for lax enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, saying the White House has dropped the ball on border security and put the country at risk for another major terrorist attack.

In a statement posted to her newly revamped official Senate Web site, Clinton charges:

"The Bush administration is failing to meet what should be the basic requirements of immigration policy: continuing our American tradition of welcoming immigrants who follow the rules and are trying to build a better life for their families, while strengthening national security in a post 9-11 world."
In a potentially potent bid to win Red State support in 2008, the former first lady is playing the role of tough cop:

I believe this is simply political double speak from Hillary. I don't believe she wants to close the borders for one second. Her husband supported FTAA, CAFTA, etc., as does our current President. They are all in favor of opening the borders and making a "Union of the Americas". That is a solution to the illegal immigration problem that I am unwilling to accept regardless of which political party it's coming from!

Don't mistake Bill Clinton's views for Hillary's. I imagine the former President and the junior Senator from NY differ on many topics, not the least of which is Monica Lewinsky. [IMG]

Our borders, north and south, and our ports need to be secured. This should have 100% bipartisan support in Washington. It's a shame that it doesn't. :(

I agree that the borders need to be closed. But, we have to be careful about how we go about doing it. The "Shining city on the hill" should never appear to be motivated by race. Meaning, if we shut down the southern border before the northern or our ports, the world will see it as a racist decision. While we know that wouldn't be the case, we have to take care to not allow anyone to make the assertion that it is.
