Now you are getting it! Music in itself is AMORAL.

I don't know much about US geography, but I am sure what you say is true. However, the OP was not about rural and urban settings, but about the idea of starting another church in the same town:

Someone in my town came up with the idea to start a "hip hop church'.

...that would also make it evil to take a stand where God and the Bible don't.

Yes, I agree. That's what I was trying to say but in a reverse direction. I used to be in a church with a large bus ministry. People of all sorts of cultural backgrounds would come to church. Never, not even once, did any of them complain about not having services tailored to their particular subculture. In fact, for the most part, they appreciated attending a church where the Gospel was clearly preached instead of socialist agendas.

If a large crowd is the objective, why not just offer free beer and you'll pack the place as long as you advertise it.

If people want a show, they can go to the theatre. Why must church be a show with hip hop, rock, sex talk, youth take-overs, dancing, celebrities, special days, honor the mayor, see the fire truck, lion and tigers under the big tent circus?

Church is for preaching, praying, and fellowship, and all for regenerated believers, not for the world.

If music itself has no message, then explain to me how you can carry "Christian Rock" cds to foreign lands and without hearing the message they recognize that the rhythm and music itself is demonic?

Music itself has a meaning, satan knows all to well about music, he use to play some instruments for God, now what type of music do you think he creates. Perhaps a little Hip Hop and Heavy Metal. Maybe some Christian Contemporary from time to time.

Chapter and verse? The Bible mentions some being able to take milk, and then moving on to meat...but I don't recall the "water" message.
How in the world do you know this? This is nothing but judgemental garbage.
    How do you know?
How do you know. And if he does?
How do you know? Tickling of ears goes both ways, btw.
You have no clue what God's will in in their church, so don't be His spokesperson. Also, learn what a "lukewarm" church really means.

Source...or was this published in last month's Legalist Weekly?
This was the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time! Now satan is a musician who creates instruments? HAHAHAHA....

If you have to ask this, may I suggest studying the Bible more?

I never said he created instruments (edited to clarify statement). And satan did play music for God, as noted in the Old Testament (you know, the book prior to the New Testament, or do you not acknowledge its signifcance). He played several instruments, or he just held on to them because they looked nice in his hands.

I like how the NASB translates this verse. I think it does a better job at conveying the real meaning of the verse.

"Abstain from ever form of evil." 1 Th 5:22

Basically whenever evil appears, in any form we should flee from it. This is the real meassage of that verse.

    LOL!!!!

I know there are exceptions, but I noticed that a number of the KJV folks on here tend to be legalistic. I wonder if they're legalistic because they misunderstand things like this in the KJV, or if they misunderstand things like this in the KJV because they're legalistic?

    4boys4joys,

I listened to the message Music Matters by Cary Schmidt. Excellent sermon!

Many great points about Music and its influence on society.
