Are you referring to Christian hip-hop like Mary Mary or secular?

I grew up on hip-hop music in the early-mid 1980s. Africa Baambata (Party People, Yeahhh!), Soul Sonic Force, Midnight Star, etc. I really liked the positive message it had. I miss that kind of hip hop. Around 1990 it all went downhill. I don't listen to any of the new stuff because of of the horrendous lyrics.

New stuff is really bad. I use to try to listen for the beat but I can't tune out the lyrics, nor do I want to support the message it sends out.

No hip hop. Just not for me in so many ways. I will occasionally listen to a little trip hop. A little Massive Attack is nice background music.

To me the downfall bagan in 1983 with Run-DMC and the whole "ego" and materialism focus. Then violence soon set in, and the "New School" took it to a further level, leading to the 1990's to the present. I had written an article on this and posted it here a couple of years ago, but I don;t know how to find particular posts from the archive.

    Baptistas,

I cant answer your question about Rap because I have as little interest in Rap as I do Hip Hop, but I couldnt pass up the opportunity to send out a "Greetings!" to a brother who lives in Moskow, Russia.

I've never conversed with anyone from there before...but isint the internet amazing! It sure makes the world smaller, doesnt it?

Talk to you later, and God bless you and all the brothers and sisters over there...

    Mike
