Hobbies an abomination???

    Boy this is an old thread!

    I know of a man who was a very talented painter. He gave up painting because his wife pointed out verses about graven images.

    I agree with whomever mentioned legalism and SaggyWoman.

    Again, don't get me wrong, Brother Curtis. I am certainly not Anti-David Cloud. Like I said above, I do find myself agreeing with him on certain issues. But when it comes to getting too much into him, like I did, then one has to be careful, lest one stop thinking for oneself. Brother Cloud, for all of his good points (and God bless him and his ministry, definitely), can be quite extreme at times.

    Hobbies and collections are just part of the package of things that make one person different from another. God uses these differences to build the church. We often learn things from our hobbies that we would be hard pressed to learn from a book.

    Hobbies can become an obsession but hopefully that is an aberancy among Christians.

    I collect "wheaty" pennies. I get one or two a year from just looking in my pocket. I'm not obsessed about them. I don't think they are worth much but I still collect them.

    I will give you a free gift worth $$$ if you mail them to me at... [​IMG] Oh, it's begining sound like I'm obsessed. :rolleyes:

    Boy, Rob, it seems like the phrase "a penny for your thoughts" is very real to you!

    My collection is $100 bills (I call them "Bennies" since Ben Franklin adorns each). My goal is to have 100 in a package for each grandkid when he/she graduates.

    With the lousy interest rates, keeping Bennies in a safety deposit box is about as good as keeping them in a savings account.

    Let's see - I have 1 now for each of my 7 grandkids. Only 693 to go! :eek:

    I like to crochet while thinking about something I read in the Bible or on a Christian site. It's relaxing.

    I don't see anything wrong with going somewhere with your spouse, if it helps build your marriage, and I'm sure God wants us to have happy marriages.

    I don't watch much TV, except for the Weather Channel. I hate soaps, I don't care for Star Trek anymore (due to its humanistic approach and blatantly calling Christianity "mythology")...and I don't know what time the Powerpuff Girls are on anymore.... :eek:

    My hobby: I have a 64 track digital recording studio. I record my own stuff but also help schools and churches with fundraisers. I record a compilation disk of their specials and produce the cds and they sell it to their own members! It works out great! My pastor wants to put specials on a cd with a 10 minute salvation message on it and give it out for free at the gas stations, motels, and restaurants in town! [​IMG]
