Was listening to TWOTM Radio podcast today as I took my walk and Todd encountered an evangelical conditionalist who insisted that Hell did not go on forever. Todd repeatedly used Matt 25 which speaks of eternal life and eternal punishment for the damned but it did not sink in. How do you dodge this passage of scripture?

Why are you so obsessed with hell (and no, Jesus didn't talk more about hell than heaven. That's a false teaching, but not a heresy).

I'm not an EC or whatever, but I imagine the argument goes "eternal punishment" is "eternal" and destruction is eternal, ie, you aren't coming back from it.

Verse 46 seems to make it clear that it is eternal.

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

So if I understand you correctly - you disagree with something that WOTM teaches?

I don't think you will find many on BB that deny Hell is eternal. How did the person on the podcast deny it?

I don't think anyone will say "Heck yea, I avoid Matthew 25 like the plague!" (even with those who deny a "literal" Hell).

He just taught conditionalism. Wicked will not be tormented forever but will eventually cease to exist.

How does that work? If you sin in heaven, you die?

Basically, eternal life = immortality = live forever. Only people who go to heaven will live forever.

There was a thread promoting it here not long ago. I disagree with the initial premise as being nothing more than assertion, then becoming a doctrine in search of a text

Ah, yes. I recall that now. Thanks.

Don't know why Evan describes it as Evangelical Conditionalism.
