Some posts quote other posts and split the quote up so they can respond to part of it at a time. How do you do that???

Some have quotes from other threads or from several threads. How do you do that???

Some have quotes from linked articles. How do you do that???

    Your help would be appreciated.

    Here's how:

You know how to just quote a post - just hit the "quote" button at the bottom of the post.

In order to split it up, you need to be sure each section that you want to quote is started with the "quote" surrounded by brackets and ends with "/quote" surrounded by brackets. As an example, I'll do it with a space in between the bracket so it won't do it but here's what it would look like as you were replying:

[ QUOTE=Carolina Baptist]Some posts quote other posts and split the quote up so they can respond to part of it at a time. How do you do that???[ /quote]

If you put in the end quote thing [ /quote], make sure that you add in the beginning quote [ quote] to start the next section. When you hit the quote button, it will already have the full quote codes in it but if you want to split it, you need to put the others in.

To do quotes from other threads, you'll find what you want to quote and either hit the quote button then copy and paste it into your post or else just copy and paste the text and add in the quote codes yourself. If you want it to say who did the quoting, you're going to do [ quote=Username] otherwise you just do the [ quote].

Again, to quote an article, you use the quote codes - those will always put the text in the box that you see for quotes. So you copy and paste the article or whatever, then put the quote codes at the beginning and the end.

So here's what it looks like when I put the [ quote] [ /quote] around something (but without the initial spaces):

To put in the name, I'm doing the [ quote=Ann] to start it:

Does all of that make sense?

24 years ago on the proto-internet (e-mail & bulletin boards) we paid for access by the minute. So we did things to minimize the number of minutes on-line. One composed off-line, jumped on-line, uploaded our posts, downloaded their posts, and get off-line - repeat as one can afford.

Carolina: // Some have quotes from other threads or from several threads. How do you do that??? //

Use 'quote' one place to get the words (and quote formatting), copy the whole thing, take it your off-line Editor. Get as many quotes this way as you want. Put the results where ever you wish. (be sure to give the proper credits, pointers, etc.)

When I first read your response I was tempted to BY EXAMPLE show how to divide a post that is three times to big to be posted - change it into four posts which can be posted -- with lavish examples

Lord ... deliver us from temptation.

I got delivered! Continue the regularly scheduled Topic.:godisgood:

When I want to quote more than one person and have it all in the same place, I simply open up notepad.

I hit the "quote" button on the BB, copy and paste the text into notepad, go back to the BB, hit "quote" on the next person's post, then copy that too and paste it onto the same notepad.

Then I can answer underneath each quote as I wish.

Then I go back to the BB, go back to the thread, and hit reply. Then I just copy and paste the whole thing from notepad into the reply box and there it is, all nice and pretty!
