    I'm the odd-ball (so far at least) who posted that religion has no bearing on my decision. Why should it? I prefer to judge by what the man has done with his life (the content of his character, I believe someone called it), not the color of his skin, or which church he does or does not attend.

    The Judicial, Legislative, and Executive Branches of government aren't what WE are thinking of when we think "Most Blessed Trinity".

    I think most Christians look more to character and ideology than agreement of belief because they recognize that the office of President is a secular, not religious one.

    Exactly. We have NEVER elected a truly "Christian" president to office so why should it be a big deal now?

    When we have unregenerate running, I agree with you. If we had a true Christian who was not walking with the Lord, it also wouldn't matter. But if a man was walking with the Lord and was a true statesman, then I would definitely vote for him. :)

    I'm pretty sure that a man of such character would not stoop to seek the office. :smilewinkgrin:

    You know, as I'm getting older, I think I agree with you. I can't see a man of great Biblical character even wanting to step into that sewer that is our political system.

    But we do need good young men to step up and do what is right. It will be a hard ride - but not any harder than it was for George Washington

    I'm not as sure that it's not harder in some respects, but it is more complicated I think. If I were eligible, I know that I'd not want to subject my family to the scrutiny.

    Agreed. DC is a cesspool and full of demons.

    And this again is perhaps why we keep ending up with the same old same old from both sides. Nobody wants that stuff rubbing off on them.

    Makes me wonder how all these folks keep making it through the "vetting" process if we keep stocking up the tank with demons.

    Must be a lot of goats running around calling themselves Christians.

    So you dont want all that sin rubbing off on you.
    I suppose you do no evangelism!

    Last week I preached a sermon about the circles we associate with. I reccommended we only be in the circles that Christ was. For example - the circle of sinners, the circle of harlots, the circle of religious leaders......

    I believe that a young man called of the Lord, could go to DC and still stay true to the Lord.

    Oh, I suppose you dont believe in the story of Daniel.....

    Is that what I said?

    You've supposed a lot of things. But I guess if it helps you make your point. :laugh:

    It's definitely going to take a very special person to do that. Daniel was one in a million. :)

    Having a direct presence with God is essential for the President. This gives him/her the strength to deal with evils among us and to relate to the needs of Americans.

    Psalms 23:4 NKJV
    Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil;
    For You are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    Too bad this kind of thinking wasn't true of all Christians in America today if it were Ron Paul would be the next president of the United States. Sadly enough we passed over the man who best fit your description of "a true Christian walking with the Lord and a true statesman" because he told us the ugly truth about the warfare state and we just couldn't have a man in office that didn't promise us more [FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]illegal, immoral, unconstitutional wars now could we?

    We showed the whole world where our faith really lies when we chose the fruits of the warfare state over a man that displayed the fruits of a true Christian his whole life. Asking ourselves if a man's religion makes any difference now after we've already showed the world our true convictions is supposed to do what exactly? Make us look concerned about things which no longer concern us?

    If we are fooling anyone with this kind of discussion it's only ourselves. Like my grandmother used to say "the only bible most folks will ever read is us".
