How many Denominations?

I truely never knew there were so many different types of Baptist until recently. Just assumed all Baptists were Baptists. I mean I was told we were Southern Baptists, but that never meant anything to me. So, how many different Baptist Denominations are there and what are the Differences?

Use the "search" feature and check it out. We have a few threads out there that actually LIST the various Baptists.

BTW, "Baptist" is a generic term, NOT a denomination.

I have heard that there are currently 148 Baptist denoiminations. Sometines they merge, other times they splinter. Yet it is an interesting point to note that even though we are many denominations, the larger portion agree on the fundamental beliefs of Christianity.
