I'll be the odd man (woman) out and say that I am indeed prejudiced. I don't mean to be. And in my heart or hearts I'm not. But, what revealed to me that I am indeed prejudiced was when we were driving on Van Dyke near 7 Mile at night and stopped at a stop light. There was a group of rough looking teens on the corner and they frightened me. Why? Because of stereotypes.

And to answer the odd question of the OP, no, I have never housed an African American, but that is probably because out in the farming community where I grew up, there weren't any. I never had an opportunity to.

Would I? That depends. But my decision would not be based on the color of the skin so much as the person him/herself.

What a good, honest answer. I do not believe you showed prejudice at the stop light. To me it sounds more like you were being prudent.

I am sure that is true of many here on the board.

Again, this sounds to me that you are being prudent. I see nothing wrong with that.

I answered the question but I was questioning the intent behind the question. The OP has had a black person sleep in his house and he wants to know how many others have too. It's a question that smacks of racism because of the focus on a particular group of people. I'm the least racist person I know and I don't appreciate being asked how many of one racial group I've had in my home. It's a ridiculous question.

Yes. It's racist because it's focusing on one group of people and labeling by their appearance or nationality. Would it have been an equally "neutral" question to you if he had said "How many of you have had a retard in their home?" It's just as offensive to me as asking "How many of you have had a black person in their house?"

Why hasn't someone asked "how many of you have had a white person as a house guest"?

I wasn't clear on my post. I wasn't talking about race. I was talking about liberal/conservative politics. Basically, I was responding to this statement of yours:
Your question shows how dumb liberals are.

Why don't you try looking at people as individuals rather than as clones from large groups?

For CTB, alatide, billwald, and all the other race-baiters out there, what if someone's answer to the OP is "No"? What does that mean to you? What conclusion could you possibly make about someone if that is their answer? More importantly, you are actually going to draw conclusions about someone based on this one Q&A? So why is it so important to answer the question, when the answer doesn't really provide any conclusive information about the person's view of race?

Or is the question only important to you because you want another reason to look down upon other people on this board?

I think it would be more impressive if somebody were to host a pink, purple or maybe a rainbow colored person :)

This from the guy who says thing like:

"Just wondering about another CON LIE, fool."

"Why is it that the CONs try to distort everything?"

"Most conservatives proclaiming Christ are Pharisees."

"I believe that the Christian Right has been used by Satan to bring down the church"

"The radical CONs lied once again. You know they never tell the truth."

"Try to act like a Christian and not a Republican if possible."

OK, You all have convinced me that you would hate Obama if he was classified as white instead of black. You hate him because he was elected as a Democrat. OK. Thanks for clearing the air for me.

I don't hate pretty much anyone (although if someone hurt my kids, I'd have a hard time loving them) so please don't use such a wide brushstroke. I don't care for President Obama because of his stand on issues that are important to me. I don't care about his color and I'm actually proud that a black man can be president in our country because it's showing just how far we've come as a nation - but I wish it were another black man. Oh - and I don't hate Democrats although I don't understand being able to support that which is against Biblical values - which are things the Democrats stand for. But I certainly don't hate them.

Oh and I remembered that I DID have a black person living with us! How could I ever forget??? She was not only a black person but a lesbian and she came to live with us while she was kicked out of her parent's house and we helped her work out of that sinful lifestyle. MAN, how could I forget Christian?? So do I get extra points for having a black lesbian in our home?? :saint:

You still don't get it do you? We don't hate the President because he's black OR because he's a democrat. We think he's wrong about so many things. You like him because he represents your position on alot of issues.

But you leftists insist that we hate him because you see everything as racial. That makes you the racist.

Well shoot.....if they can belittle our position then they don't have to address legitimate arguments. They are not being honest. They know it isn't racial their false claims are made knowingly to divert from the real issues they cannot refute. Or apologize for.

It simply means that an African American has not stayed overnight. I do not see a yes or a no as an indication of whether a person is a racist or not. There are many non racist reasons a person may answer no. There are also many non racist reasons a person may answer yes. I know at least two people who never allow anyone of any color, nationality, religious background, etc. to stay overnight in their home. That is their decision ... and knowing them I do not consider them racist or unfriendly, just very private people.

I do not see the question as race baiting .... just a question. I do not assume intent in such a question. It appears many others do.

You may or may not find this interesting, but I went to College when we were taught that the Black races came from the line of Ham, and that race was destined to be the slave race of the world. This was common teaching and the basis for segregation in the early days.

I also worked for Civil Rights in the Southern most States in 1960. I stayed in Black homes and wpent three days in an Alabama jail for walking down the street with two Black men. We were not paradng for Black people. We were campaigning for the civil rights of ALL.

So, I went South as a theological segregationist, and came home with a changed theology and biblical interpretation of the three sons of Noah.

Segregation did not mean that we all had ill feelings about coloured peoples, we just believed they had different avenues of life.

Back in Pennsylvania, they still had segregated camps under the Bible Club Movement in the 60's.

I have seen a lot of changes over the years, and I have witnessed some areas where there is no change. In one of Billy Graham's crusades, he refused to continue the services if "Negroes" were refused at the door of the church. They were allowed to sit in the balcony!!!!!!

Some people never have any guests in their home. I don't thinl these things are a test of one's views on segregation.

    Cheers,

    Jim

??? There are numerous reasons to be critical of Obama. The color of his skin is not one of them. I'd venture to say that even his partisan affiliation alone is not necessarily one of them.

What are your reasons for being against him? Trying to fix the terrible mistakes of the previous administration? This includes the economy and both wars.

And yet he continues to continue the previous administration's terrible mistakes, even expanding some.

So, what are your reasons for being for him again?

Give me a break. The CONs on the board hate every Democrat calling them baby murders and questioning their Christianity as well as communists.
