We live in a small town (5000 people) in southwest Wisconsin. There is not a Bible believing church in our county. We feel strongly that there ought to be.

Historically, strong churches do not last long in this community. From what we know (having lived here 20+ years) pastors typically leave town suddenly or the church splits.

With this type of history, is it "fair" to consider starting a church and calling a pastor?

What steps would we take? We believe that, should a pastor come, then people would step forward to join the work with us.

What can we do? What *should* we do?!

Talk to the other churches in near-by counties. Ask them to help you get a work going. I know a man living in southern Wisconsin who is an experienced church planter. If you want me to I can have him contact you. [IMG]

Start building some outside support with some church associations or fellowships. Many will support a new church plant as a missions project. As well as offers other types of help to the new plant.

Consider the ministry of Baptist Church Planting Ministry - maybe they can help.

    Also Baptist4RC,

Milwaukee has traditionally been called the "graveyard of preachers." Billy Sunday left after three days, stating that MIlwaukee was enslaved to alcohol. But we have a church here now that is growing, and we've been an established church for about 30 years. We're even building a new building now. People are being saved here, and if God can do it here, He can do it over there on your side of Wisconsin!

When GOd is involved in the founding of it, it will last. Just keep God involved in every part of the process.

There's always the old Bible way, start sharing your faith with people you meet, as some accept the Lord have them over for coffee and disciple them and when you have enough start a church and if you think there is a need for a full time man, call one, or there is also the option of just continuing to teach them yourself :)

The Bible-way exscentric...how dare you suggest something so barbaric and base in this day of church-growth workshops, and seeker sensitive movements...what were you thinking? [IMG]

There are many variables that are nust not covered in your post.

What is the percentage of unchurched?

If 99% are churched catholic or lutheran, starting a church just to have a Bible believing church might not be the best usage of resources ... (by resources I truly mean a man gifted by God as a church planter).

On the other hand, I know of some church planters that are interested in that portion of Wisconsin.

    Let me know more.

he he he... that'll never work!

seriously... let the LORD build the house!

Psa 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

If you can win people to Christ you can start a church.
