Here, federal district judge, John C. Coughenour, comments on Michael B. Mukasey's potential service as AG and also his definition of torture, with Judge Coughenour noting:

Consider the fact that of the 598 people initially detained at Guantánamo Bay in 2002, 267 have been released. It is likely that for a number of the former detainees, there was simply no basis for detention. The American ideal of a just legal system is inconsistent with holding “suspects” for years without trial.

When compared with this WSJ article by Mukasey were he says:

When one tries to assess people who can find it in themselves to fly airplanes into buildings and murder 3,000 of us in a single morning, whatever else you can say about such people, they are very sure that they are right; and wouldn't it be music to their ears to hear that our spirit says we're not too sure that we are right?

... which sounds like Mukasey is interested in adopting the "attitude" of terrorists (not admitting mistakes) in order to fight them. Given the fact that the govt. obviously erred (at least) 267 times to date by admittedly detaining that specific number of innocent people, well...
