I have kept this in my Bible for 27 years. I need a reality check from time to time. [IMG]

    We sing:

Heavenly Sunlight and stay away from church when it's hot...

Sweet Hour of Prayer and skip the prayer meeting...

Onward Christian Soldiers and then go AWOL...

O for a Thousand Tongues and don't use the one we have to win souls...

Blest Be the Tie That Binds then let little misunderstandings cut it...

We're Marching to Zion and won't even walk to Sunday School...

Throw Out the Lifeline and are content to throw out a fishing line on Sunday...

I Love to Tell the Story and yet never tell it...

This is My Father's World and throw our garbage on the roadsides...

Lead Me to Calvary and ask directions to the ballpark on Sunday...

Faith is the Victory and depend on our feelings...

Make Me a Blessing and pray, "Give me a blessing."...

Oh! To Be Like Thee and imitate TV and Rock stars...

All That Thrills My Soul is Jesus and seek worldly pleasures...

Jesus Loves the Little Children and refuse to teach a Sunday School class...

Burdens are Lifted at Calvary and make an appointment with the psychiatrist...

Oh Say, But I'm Glad! and walk around frowning...

A Mighty Fortress is Our God and put our trust in our bank accounts...

When We All Get to Heaven and live as though we planned to stay on earth forever...

My Faith Looks Up to Thee and then trust in our own abilities...

I thought we meant them but we just changed the words.

    Sweet Minute of Prayer
I Like to Tell The Story
Oh To Be Sorta Like Thee
When Some Of Us Get To Heaven
    Onward Christian Attendees
    Heavenly Nightlight

When we sing "Go Tell it on the Mountain", most people say they live in a valley [IMG]

For me it seems to be:

I Surrender All... and then pick up everything I just surrended five seconds later.

    I have decided,
    To follow Jesus.

    I sing [IMG]

    I half decided,
    To follow Jesus

    5. Count Your Many Birthdays, Name Them One by One
    6. Go Tell It on the Mountain, But Speak Up
    7. Give Me the Old Timers' Religion
    8. Blessed Insurance
    9. Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah, I've Forgotten Where I Parked

Oh how we jest about the songs and their meanings. Let us not forget where they came from. The turmoil and pain or the gladness of heart that inspired the people to compose them. I would hope that they would inspire me to do some soul searching.

On the other hand some of these are funny [IMG] , thanks for the laugh gang.

"Take my life and let it be". . seems like my prayer.

Take my life, Lord, BUT let it be

Amazing what we do to our hymns when we cut off sentences in the middle or fail to use punctuation!

I'm sorry [IMG] I meant no disrespect. I know most of the hymns came from poems etc. that arose out of real pain. I read about a lot of the writers and where the hymns originated. But we have to have a little humor now and then. After all, laughter is good for the soul. [IMG]

    FROM: http://www.episcorat.org/news.html

Leaders of the Evangelical Laodicean Church in America last week announced the publication of a new hymnal. "This is truly a hymnal for the new century," said Presiding Bishop Luke W. Armm.

"This collection of hymns really captures the essence of our tradition," Bishop Armm explained. "At the core of our belief is the motto, 'Moderation in all things,' and that applies to our faith life as well. We just don't like to get carried away."

When asked if the new hymnal will help the Laodicean Church attract new members, Bishop Armm replied, "Yeah, sure. You Betcha! People in today's society get kind of uncomfortable with too much talk about things like commitment and dedication. They'd much rather have a religion that they can turn on or off at will. Our church seeks to pander--er, I mean--meet that need. This hymnal will help with that, I think."

Editor in chief of the new hymnal, Priscilla ("Presh") S. Moment, explained some of the difficulty the committee had in choosing hymns. "Many of the old favorites just won't cut it among Laodiceans," said Moment. "We had to change a lot of the wording to make them fit with our style We tried to incorporate some new songs into the book, but we had trouble finding Laodiceans interested in writing new music. Oh well!"

The title of the new hymnal, Church Songs, was chosen very carefully, explained Moment. "We didn't want to turn anybody off with threatening words that no one understands any more like 'Worship' or 'Hymn.'"

Here is a partial list of titles included in the new Laodicean hymnal:

    I Surrender Some
There Shall Be Sprinkles of Blessings
    Fill My Spoon, Lord
    Oh, How I like Jesus
He's Quite a Bit to Me
I Love to Talk about Telling the Story
Take My Life and Let Me Be
It Is My Secret What God Can Do
There Is Scattered Cloudiness in My Soul Today
    Onward, Christian Reservists
Where He Leads Me, I Will Consider Following
Just as I Pretend to Be
When the Saints Go Sneaking in
Sit Up, Sit up for Jesus
A Comfy Mattress Is Our God
Self-esteem to the World! The Lord Is Come
Oh, for a Couple of Tongues to Sing
Amazing Grace, How Interesting the Sound
Go Tell it on the Speed Bump
    Special, Special, Special
Lord, Keep Us Loosely Connected to Your Word
Praise God from Whom All Affirmations Flow
My Hope Is Built on Nothing Much
O, God, Our Enabler in Ages Past
I Lay My Inappropriate Behaviors on Jesus
Pillow of Ages, Fluffed for Me
All Hail the Influence of Jesus' Name!
    When Peace, like a Trickle
I'm Fairly Certain That My Redeemer Lives
We Give Thee But Still Think We Own
What an Acquaintance We Have in Jesus
My Faith Looks Around for Thee
    Blessed Hunch
    Above Average Is Thy Faithfulness
We Are Milling Around in the Light of God
Spirit of the Living Cod, Fall Somewhere Near Me M
Blest Be the Tie That Doesn't Cramp My Style
Joyful, Joyful, We Kinda Like Thee
Just as I Am, with Lots of Excuses
    Be Thou My Hobby
Spirit of God, Descend Upon Their Hearts

I do know how you feel there I Am Blessed 16, I cringe myself more than once when reading a list like that  Guess it just further emphasises the truths expressed by the original hymn-writers [IMG]
