Recently there was a good debate on the Bible versions forum between Jason and Will on the innerancy of the KJV of the Bible. This thread is not meant to start a versions discussion.
I debated or passed information back and forth with Will at one time. This is what I know about him:
Will is very sincere. You are not going to change his mind. However I think what many do not get about Will is that he also thinks ( or at least this is the way I get it)that if your version works for you then good.He thinks there is enough gospel in other translations of the Bible for one to get saved and be discipled from. I think the way He might describe it is other versions which are honest faithful translations are the Word of God but the KJV is God's Word. Will correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Jason on the other hand believes only the original manuscripts are the Actual Word of God but there are faithful translations his personal favorite seems to be the KJV or NKJV.
I am a KJV preferred 1-3 somewhere in there.I read from the KJV Study Bible on a daily basis. I do my scripture memory from a KJV. I teach and preach from a KJV. I also read and study and recognize several other versions (my favorites being ESV and NASB)recognizing them as honest translations of God's Word and as faithful as the translators were abble to make them which is the same claim the translators of the KJV made as they recognized they were not perfect.I think many on this board fall somewhere near my belief in this regard.
It is my belief that we are closer than the KJV crowd thinks we are. I think they don't understand that we are not attacking the KJV of the Bible. Further I think they have no idea how much many of us love the KJV of the Bible.Thier big sticking point is that we can accept other translations as the Word of God. Am I somewhere close to right here?

Exactly! I love the KJV and use the NKJV for daily reading and study. I keep my old KJV's WITH my NKJV and go back and forth because of all the notes I've taken over the years. Yes... I do write in my Bible. [IMG]

I too love and use the KJV. I attend a church where our Pastor preaches from the NIV. No problem although I wish he used the KJV. The Sunday school teachers use everything from the NKJV the ASV and the NIV. Funny thing though every time I hear someone quote the Bible from memory they usually quote the KJV. Do you think the KJV is easier to memorize? There is just something majestic about the KJV and I think there is no other book in the world like it.

I do NOT think the KJV is easier to memorize but that's all we learned from when I was a child, hence I generally tend to quote from KJV or NKJV. [IMG]

One of the purposes of the AV1611 was to make the words and phrases "flow" for beautiful public reading and worship. Hence I tend to use its phrasing in memorizing.

We will never be close as long as one side condemns the bible of the other. And that is all one sided.

And that's a shame. Two things that really bother me are the fight over God's Word and christians beating up and badmouthing other christians.
Satan is smart and clever. Here we are fighting over things we generally pretty much agree on except for hair splitting issues while the unborn are dying, our state and federal judges ignore the law and make thier own to the point that the institution of marriage in this country is now in danger.
We fight amongst ourselves while kids are killing each other in the streets. Drug use is as common as the day is long.We have become so promiscuous that rape is now called sexual assault. When I was young rape was a capitol offence.Child molesters have organized themselves with pornographers they are getting away with to much and when they are caught if they are prosecuted they get off far to lightly. All of this is going on while we nit and pick.
Dr. Bob I've read your posts for some time now. I've read where you have told us some wo'nt have you in thier pulpit because of your stand. I just want to tell you I agree with 97% of what you say. I admire your stand and You are what I think of when I think of a real fundamentalist.I can't remember what the 3% is I disagree with but I would say that on general principle I never agree with anybody 100% I think somewhere in the baptist culture that's a requirement.
