We don't really have a wandering cat problem here. Any cat left to wander eventually becomes coyote or wolf dinner.

Russell55 - it all depends on how big the cat is!

Diane - LOL - I have two cats who try to be first to sit on my lap when I'm in my recliner.
A third will come up and lay down on my chest - just under my chin!

Dr. Bob - watch out for the animal police!

Dan - leave them cats alone!

I can verify that - Moses got the email and forwarded it to every cat he knew! [IMG]

(hasn't this gotten out of hand, Sue? all of us cat people raising up - it's like discussing politics or religion!)

We don't have any cats in our neighborhood. If we do, they are house cats.

In our old neighborhood, there were so many stray cats that the animal control had to trap them. It seemed that most of them lived behind us and would sun in our yard driving our poor little dog to distraction and me with him.

I have never seen so many cats in one place. This will destroy one's love of cats.

although it seems unlikely that you will go in this direction I am blessed, I still want to weigh in and agree with Thankful in regard to the Bichon Frise. We have had one for about 5 months now, and he is so smart, I just can't believe it, he will go into his kennel on command, has learned to sit, to stand on his hind legs and spin around for a treat, and various other tricks that my kids have taught him, virtually without effort... and speaking of kids.... I have never seen a dog so patient and loving, even to my four yr old who isn't always as gentle as he could be! He is great because several of my kids, and I, have allergies. Since the Bichon has hair and not fur, there isn't the dander to deal with, and he does not shed. He does need to be brushed, but really, his upkeep is very minimal. Oh, and he is an excellent watch dog as well. Of course he would never strike fear into the heart of an intruder, but you can be sure we would all know about it the moment someone got to the door. So in regard to your criteria, I'd say that the Bichon satisfies every one of them..... see http://www.bichon.org/bfca.htm

Sue, you can't go wrong with a Bichon. But they are like people and have different personalities.

Muffin is very daring. He will climb, jump, and run. While a friend has one the same age, hers will not climb or go down steps, will not jump. Someone put him on the sofa and forgot about him and he stayed there all night until someone picked him up. He is an inside dog and very prissy and Muffin loves the outdoors and is a ragamuffin.

Even if you don't get one, it is fun to search the internet for a dog.

    Sue,

Betty has a good idea there - get an internet dog.

    Cyber-dogs -- they don't:

    1. Eat
    2. Poop
    3. Bark - unless you want them to!
    4. Cost much
    5. Have to see a vet
    6. Chase cars
    7. Bite
    8. Chew your slippers
    9. Shed
    10. Chase cats
    11. Smell

Dan - Betty has a great idea for dogs!

That's right, Dan, and they will not keep you up at night, either.

    Abiyah,

I went to one of the links you posted and it came up with my ideal dog... a toy poodle, which is what Leo is [IMG] [IMG]

Jan once had a toy poodle - "Little Miss Fifi Number Nine" -- she loved that dog!

Dan - liked my poms much better!

I'd take one of those puppies Lisa Douglas had on Green Acres. What kind of dog is that?

    What was Lisa's dog's name?

Lisa's dog's name was Mignon (as in filet mignon...pronounced minion). Mignon was a female Yorkshire Terrier.

Dan - question asked - question answered!
