Your personal attack aside, claim to state how something not true can be wise?

I never said Proverbs was "not true." Kindly argue with what I have said, not what you think I said.

Is this test just prayer, a ritual, or just seeing how close to Jesus your life is headed?

They are most certainly for real! There are great predictions there that came true plus some of Psalms is great reading to ease your soul.

So the declarative statement "will not depart from it", is only a wise saying, and not full truth or promise? My pastor thinks along these same lines, but I have a hard time buying that since ALL of Scripture is inspired from God, that the entire book of Proverbs are only there to give us "wise sayings" and not Biblical truth.
Then why did it not begin with "Generally speaking..."? I don't see this in the text, but rather "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it "
</font>[/QUOTE]It means when the child is old, he will remember being taught the Truth by his parents. It doesn't mean he'll be obedient to the Truth or that he'll pass the teaching on to his children. As Pastor Larry has said, it's no guarantee.

    The Proverbs especially contain
things which are the way things are and
things which are the way they would
be in an idea world (which we don't live in).
The Proverbs contain observations and commandments;'
one is wise who figures out which is which.

    Proverb 27:14 (KJV1611 Edition):
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice,
    rising earely in the morning,
it shall be counted a curse to him.

Many of us have been thus insulted by someone
with a cheery greeting WAY TOO EARLY
in the morning. This is NOT a commandmant
of God and woe to him who treats
it as such. This is a wise
observation of the way the world really works.

    Proverb 13:18 (KJV1611 Edition):
Pouerty and shame shall be to him that
refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth
    reproofe, shall be honoured.

This is the way an ideal world would work,
the second part is a commandment of God:
we should give heed when God sends someone
to reprove us (even if we don't personally
    like the messenger).
