    Well since I'm a girl, I certianly don't think I am called to be a preacher {unless it's to an all woman group} or a traveling evangelist, and right now, I don't feel the call to be a missionary, but we have all ben comanded by the Bible to witness to others. I try to do that everyday. Sometimes I fail, but God always forgives me.
    Lord willing I will be attending Tabernacle Bible College in Greenvile SC. That's why I voted other. I didn't see it listed.
    I want to serve God with all my life, from now untill I met Him in Heaven. I don't know what my future holds, but I know God's will is perfect, and He will be guiding me along the way. [IMG]

    Although you listed Reformed Theological Seminary, you did not include Covenant Theological Seminary, which is an excellent seminary.

    I went to McAfee, so I'm biased. I have had friends/colleagues at Duke, Emory, Columbia, BTSR, and now at Wake Forest.

    Joshua,
    Is Vanderbilt still high on everyones list? It seemed a couple of years ago lots of folks were very excited about it.

    Russell,

    I'm almost positive that I owe you an e-mail, but the Staton thing has me - um - busy at the moment. Feel free to give me a call so we can catch up.

    On the issue of Vanderbilt - I haven't heard much about it lately. I know one Ph.D. student there, and I'm sure that their divinity school is every bit as solid as Duke's or Emory's; I just haven't seen many of their grads down here in 'lanta. I hate it that David Buttrick has retired, and I don't think they've found a replacement yet.

    I find it harder to find a place where a woman can study without feeling "lesser".

    Why does anyone have to go to any university or college if they are called to preach? The bible is all you need to learn from and the power of the Holy Ghost will "preach" you.
    IMHO

    Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA is a great school. Plus you get a good view of the Rose Parade every year.

    As for why a person who's called should go to college? Why should anyone go to college? To become learned and guided in his/her profession. IF the Holy Spirit called me to be a truck driver, I'd heed the calling and go to truck driver school. If the Holy Spirit called me to be a chef, I'd go to cullinary academy. If the Holy Spirit called me to be a preacher, I'd go to seminary.

    Does that mean you're considering returning to seminary to pick up another degree?

    As a starter, Susanpet, I would reference 2Tim 2:15("study to show thyself approved..."), which would definitely include making a dilligent effort to prepare academically for vocational Christian service.

    I voted other, as in NONE of the above.
    Brother Jimmy, the New Testament does not indicate that any persons ever understood and applied I Tim. 2:15 in that way, either by attending an existing school of higher learning, or by starting a "Christian" one.

    We have pastors and missionaries sent from our church who were trained in the Bible Institute in our church. Are they adequately trained? Well, they have been successful in winning souls, establishing new churches, and training local pastors to lead these churches, which are winning souls and taining pastors. Are they adequately trained? [IMG]

    Hey, I not implying that you can't win souls if you have a Bible college degree. If a person can afford to go to one of these schools,fine. I'm sure it trains the individual in research of the different translations and so on.
    But I sincerely believe that if a man is called by God to preach the Word, he doesn't have to say, "Wait a few years, Lord. I will have to go to college first and get my degree so I will know how to win souls."
    Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are a lot of men with Bible college degrees that make fine preachers. I just don't believe it is nessesary.
    How many apostles went to college before they began to spread the word?
    Maybe I am just old-fashioned.

    If God calls a man to preach His word, that man
    must:

    * drop everything and go;
    * preach the whole counsel of God, and not the counsel of man;

    He must not:
    * wait till he graduates from Bible College;
    * wait till a title is conferred upon him;
    * wait for a church, even his home church, to pledge financial support for him.
