I'm new to the IFB church and my Pastor is new as well. He only graduated a year ago and is 30 years old with a young family. I was wondering if any of you good Preachers would have an idea as to what I could get him for Christmas that he could really USE.

    I'd appreciate your insight...Thanks!

A gift certificate so he can take his wife out to eat would be a nice treat. A gift certificate to a local Christian bookstore (Like Lifeway) would also be good. As a pastor, let me tell you I am grateful to hear someone ask this kind of question. Tells me that you care for your shepherd which is always good :D

    Kathy,

I am a pastor of 30+ years. TVs ideas about a book gift certificate or a dinner out is great. However, if you give him a dinner out, be sure to provide babysitting since he has small children. That is always a great help.

Any expression of love or appreciation is a great encouragement. :D

    Keep in the Word!!

How about a new car?? LOL

I'd shoot for the gift certificate too, like maybe at the grocery store.

    Hey Saggy,
I'll buy him the 2002 Mercedes...you think that'll show my appreciation? *hehe*

Ok, dinner out with the wife and babysitting for the kiddos! I really like this and I KNOW they will like this because he speaks often of making time for his family and how important that is...oh hey, I could get them a gift certificate to Chuckie Cheese so the kids could come too huh...they could take mine with them and me and my hubby will have a night out! LoL! I'm JOKING!

Thanks guys (and girl), I love the idea!

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE, here they come! *hehe*

Most thoughtful gift I ever got from a parishoner was a "coupon" book for one free evening of babysitting for each of the 12 months.

And they meant it. If we hadn't used it by the 20th, they would call and ask.

We also had the owner of the A&W in our church and he gave us a free shrimp dinner one Friday a month for a year.

And we had farmers give meat and a grocery shower at the Xmas Eve service that filled our pantry.

Hey, you just brought back a lot of good memories of Christmases 30+ years ago when I was a wet-behind-the-ears preacher. Thanks!

    Bob,

I have similarly fond memories. In particular I remember the Deacon who, on his way out the door, would periodically stick a $ 20 bill in my pocket and then slip out before I could say anything.

A pastor is always trying to build their library, and never has enough time to spend with their own family. Any gift that addresses either of these things would be welcome.

    Joshua
