Longtime pro-family activist Phyllis Schlafly is imploring conservatives to oppose efforts by Congress and President Bush to create a "guest worker" program that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

The founder of Eagle Forum says the country is in dire need of leaders in Washington who will stand up to plans to integrate the U.S. with Mexico. Schlafly, speaking during a panel discussion at the Conservative Political Action Conference, stated those leaders must stop the flood of millions of "low-wage, uneducated, high-school dropouts" into America. According to Schlafly, those illegal aliens are taking the jobs of "our own high-school dropouts."

Schlafly was met with applause when she stated "we have to stop the rip-off of the American taxpayers who are paying the social benefits of all of these illegal aliens -- the schooling, the crime, the emergency healthcare."

She added that the "racket of [illegally] bringing in pregnant women to have their babies in this country" needs to be stopped as well.

Amen! I've written many letters to my State and Federal representatives on this subject. I'm not convinced any of them are doing nearly enough to stop this cancer. It's killing us faster every year.

She writes a lot of great articles for Town Hall. Good to see her referenced. And she is quite correct, Bush has his fingers in his ears. Hopefully, congress will remember how much they hate him, and filibuster this dangerous legislation.

I doubt they will fillibuster him on this. They will push it through he will sign it and they will claim all the credit. But as far as I am concerned they can have it. Socialism at its worst.

And this year's scare-topic is, envelope please ---- illegal aliens!

Who do we blame for all our problems and social ills? You got it! Illegal aliens!

The Guest worker program is certainly not a liberal program as it creates an easily exploitable sub-class totally at the mercy of the big corporations (which are not known for their mercy, with some exceptions). Complain, and you're not only out of a job, you are out of the country. At least, this is my understanding of the program.

The illegals are a whole other voting base. A NY counselman proposed to let non citizens vote. Areas of the country already allow votung without id's to prove who thye are. It all lends to gaining a liberal voting base.

Tammany Hall was built on it, but I don't know that anyone would call them liberal so much as plain corrupt.

The councilman was speaking of local elections, I'm pretty sure (as national voting is restricted by the Constitution to citizens). If he was speaking of permanent resident aliens, aka legal aliens, I think there is a good argument that they should have some say in local matters. I don't know what case he made for it - do you?

Illigeal immigration is a potato too hot to handle for vote buying politicians of both major parties.

The "anchor baby" practice needs to be stopped, but I believe that, due to the longstanding misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment, it will require an amendment to the amendment.

I think she's got it totally right.

If someone breaks the law to get into our country, what would stop them from breaking the law once they're here?

Nothing. and when they do break the law, and some of them can be pretty horrendous, they will always have a safe haven to go back to. In matters where crimes are commited that would warrant a death penalty you will never see Mexico extridite one of their own to face justice in the United States.
