I was wondering how many people download illegal software, music, movies, etc.. Especially Music (that is the big one for most people, at least it seems to be). It seems that I come across many in my age group (20 - 25) that seem to justify this practice and even more so I was wondering if people actually use this illegal music in church (for ministry etc). I am not coming down on people that is not the point of this thread. Just wondering the thought process behind it and how many people come across this in their own lives.

the only music i have ever downloaded have been the free ones that have been offered on the internet...usually by the artist themselves. I don't have an Ipod or anything like that, so i just don't bother with it much.

As for software and movies, i usually buy my own software and if i really want to watch something i'll either rent it or buy it.

Illegal downloads is stealing and it is wrong. There is no justification for it.

As a semi-professional musician, I would like to see those who illegaly download music shot at sunset.

i wouldn't do it. I got into a huge fight with my brother 'cuz I wouldn't copy discs for him.

That being said, I would also protect my art, by not putting it where folks could steal it.

    Curtis,

Where would you put it that you could sell it and protect it at the same time? The most recent example of theft of art came today when folks illegally put Star Wars on the internet.

I agree it is wrong. Illegal file sharing is everywhere, especially on any college campus. I attended Liberty University and the files were shared over a college wide network. The college tried to stop it, but getting past their walls were easy for most. I find it hard for people to justify, but they do (even christians). It would be interesting or sad to see how many people use illegal files or music in their ministry.

Joseph, you are quite correct. I guess if people want your music, they'll get it.

I have about 1200 cd's. Maybe 10 of them are burnt. Sue me.

    Travelsong,

How does it feel to be a theif? If you had stolen (and yes, that is what you did is steal) my music, I would most certainly sue you. I wonder if you would be so bold as to e-mail the folks whose music you stole and actually tell them to sue you. Would you be willing to do that? Take accountability for your actions? Something tells me they would do more than sue you. You might even end up with a criminal record.

First of all, they are albums given to me. Second, I didn't care for them enough to buy them. Third, I'd just as soon destroy them as have them take up precious room on my cd rack.

Lastly, if you can find the email addresses of Bloc Party, Ween, Trans Am, M83, Tortoise, Ladytron, Snow Patrol, Clutch, Deathcab For Cutie, The Postal Service and Doves I'll be glad to provide you my information so that you can let them know I own one of each of their albums which isn't worth paying money for let alone the cost of the plastic disc to burn it on. Oh, yes, they can sue me too.
