To give you an example of an entrapment question, I could ask you which Mods act like Pharisees. Since to bad mouth Mods and (Admins) is a banning offense, I am setting you up. Often, folks say "so you are saying... and then what follows is some heresy. If I respond in the affirmative, I have been marginalized.

Other, less than mature behaviors are to answer a question with a question, say what you do not believe, but not to clearly present what you do believe. Of course you will see against the man arguments, I am often told my views are wrong, without presenting an alternate view.

All we can do is clearly present our view (whether it is a correct view or a mistaken view) and hope someone else either affirms it or provides evidence from scripture against it, and an alternate more biblical view.

Yeah, I suppose I walked a guy into a ban the other week, but it wasn't my intent.

He made the claim that only pagan gods demanded blood sacrifices, and I asked if he thought certain sections of Leviticus were inspired.

By the time I got back to the thread, he had already answered in the negative and had been banned.

If Scripture is less than infallible using it as evidence is a little foolish.

I guess each board has to draw lines in what is acceptable and what is not. It is not just about baptist distinctives (the BB has, for example, a stance on abortion).

I hated to see the member go, BTW. I enjoyed his posts and he and I shared a few concerns and views.

I just don't see it that way. I don't have to have an infallible book to believe in an infallible God.

The doctrine of inerrancy teaches that the Bible is inerrant in the original autographs. Textual variants exist but there are no errors that impugn any doctrine. Ergo, the 66 books of the Bible we have today can rightly be called God's word. If the Bible is not inerrant it cannot be trusted. If the Bible cannot be trusted the entire foundation of our faith is called into question. While questioning inerrancy may be allowed on this board, do not expect many of us to allow that charge to escape unchallenged.

Then what do you base your faith on? If the Bible may contain errors that affect doctrine, how can you be sure of anything in regards to your faith?

The '63 BF&M says something to the effect that the criteria on which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ. I go along with that.

So, you go along with a man-made document that says to trust in Jesus, and have no assurance that what you are believing in is true and not a result of error? Wow. I did not know that the S.B.C. was that...wait for it...inerrant.

I am going to go out on a limb here and kind of guess why you asked about what it takes to get banned. I am a rather cynical person and I am starting to get the feeling that you enjoy pressing buttons that get a reaction.

    I am confuzzled

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    II Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 NKJV

If this is to be true we need an absolute scripture to learn from or God is setting us up for failure.

Now find me a passage for "vicar of Christ" theology and some fancy chair. I'll wait.

But maybe I'm just a simple dock builder from the sticks.

No, I am interested in beliefs and thinking deeply about them.
