Driven by a combination of climate change, trade policies and competition for cattle feed from biofuel producers, global milk prices have doubled over the past two years. In parts of the United States, milk is more expensive than gasoline. There are reports of cows being stolen on Wisconsin dairy farms.
"There's a world shortage of milk," said Philip Goode, manager of international policy at Dairy Australia in Canberra.

I think I'll get me a few goats. Ahem ---- easier to feed as feed too is on the rise. They'll eat anything.

I think the difference is the fact we don't buy 10 gallons of milk each week :)

Farmers in vast areas have more incentive to grow crops for alcohol fuels, than for feed, which is one of the biggest reasons for higher milk product prices.

And alcohol for fuel is foolish, except to politicians and growers. Oh yes and to radical environmentalists.

My 3 year old has picked this exact moment in history to begin to crave milk. Now she wants it at every meal.

We flipped a coin...best 2 out of 3...she gets all the milk she wants, but no college. :D
