I received this obituary from his grandson Stephen. Dr. Hollowood was, as Stephen put it, "promoted to Glory" on July 23, 2004.

I counted Doc and Jane as dear friends. I spent time in their home on Blaisdale in South Minneapolis, often in his library. As teens, his daughters Beckie and Ruthie and I were in the same Sunday School class.

Austere, stately in manner and formal in speech, but with a wry wit and twinkling eye, Doc served the State of Minnesota well. I was very pleased when they moved to Watertown to serve at Maranatha. I started my grad work there when he started and in those small classes (often 3-5 men) we got to understand his mind and classical theology.

His sweet wife Jane had never finished college, so she took the last couple classes and graduated with my wife, myself, Circuitrider and others who were there at the founding of Maranatha. Unable to come to our class reunion a few years back, we visited for a while on the phone where she kept me updated on Doc's health.

His influence in me and love for books and learning and grasping philosophy and theology keeps a small part of his memory alive.

I do remember Dr. Hollowood, even though I am a youngster, and did not attend Maranatha until '93. I know that my parents always spoke highly of the both of them. I can remember visiting the school as a young boy, when old main still looked old inside. I have great respect for many of the faculty who were there when Dr. Bob and Circuitrider attended, Doc Hollowood being one of those men. They built a great foundation at MBBC, as demonstrated by the continuing quality of the ministry. It is a great legacy that I am proud to have been impacted by.

So as not to show disrespect for the dead, I will withhold comment.

Not to worry, Pastor Greg. While this thread is a eulogy, so it is not all that critical of the man and his ministry. None of us are going to be putting up pictures of Dr. M. James in our fellowship halls any time soon.

Wow...I didn't know Dr. Hollowood had passed on to glory. I wish someone would have let me know (Dr. Bob...LOL!) Though I didn't graduate from MBBC, I did go there one year and knew the Hollowoods. I thank the Lord that I got to know them and their son who was teaching there. Dr. Hollowood was always straight forward with me, as was his wife, Jane. They counselled me on the girl I was dating, and I took their counsel to heart. I thank the Lord that I did. I always appreciated their walk with the Lord.

    See you in Heaven Doc.

Some fitting commments and eulogy for the good Dr. He always seemed to have his local church many miles from where he lived. While teaching at MBBC he was a member of his church in Buffalo, NY and while living his final days in Pennsyvania he was a member in Mukwonago, WI. It does keep one out of trouble though. :D

AVL, Jane gave my wife some advice while a student at MBBC, and I am glad we did not follow it.

Despite some differences, they were faithful fundamental Baptists in a challenging day of compromise.

It would be much easier to be happy in a church if you were never there! :D

Or as a famous preacher once said, "Churches would be great if it wasn't for the people"

Hi, Brother Vawter! Yes, she gave some advice to some friends of mine, too, and it was a good thing they didn't follow it. But, I believe in my situation, Mrs. H knew about this girl and knew that I didn't need to be around that type.
She gave some advice at times I'm glad I, too, did not follow. But, that's what counsellors are for, advice, opinion. It's up to us whether or not to heed it and to pray on it.
They certainly were unique people. I always thought it funny, Dr. H and his son both wearing the thin lined moustaches...LOL...and a lot of people joked about it. But, I have to say, I seldom have found more Godly people than the Hollowood family.
