A college student was home for the weekend and came to church today. At the end of church he approached me and gave me a fist pound. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fist_pound

It's not the first time we've done it. My kids and I do it. We did it in High School (in the 80's), my kids do it today. I do it at with co-workers. I see people do it where they wouldn't normally shake hands. I think of it as a greeting gesture and see nothing wrong with it.

Anyways someone mentioned they saw me doing it and thought it was inappropriate. Imagine what they would think if I gave him a Holy Kiss.

Then there's the pound hug. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_hug .. Something I do on occasion with friends and family. Do you find these inappropriate greeting gestures?

Did they give a reason? I can't imagine what's wrong with it.

I give lots of the people in my church a fist pound. I don't see anything wrong with it. Of all the things in church to be concerned about this is not one. Some people will get upset at anything.

I do both all the time. We call the fist pound, "giving knuckles" and the hug is how we all greet each other (males). Especially preachers.

I guess we joined the Christian gang complete with secret handshake and hug... :wavey:

Just ask that person if they eat meals. That's what the gangs do. Ask them if they drive a car. That's what the gangs do.

Tell that person that you are not aware of what the gangs do. If he presses then ask him how he would know.

Would you consider the someone that mentioned it, elderly?

I would say a fist pound for the fist pounders, and a regular hand shake for the regular hand shakers.

Howie Mandell on "Deal or No Deal" does this over a germ phobia about handshaking.

    how about the Monk handshake?

    -----------

I really don't want to be flippant, but some people need to find some more serious things to worry about.

Well, don't we all learn something new everyday!?!

I have seen young people on tv "fist pound", but I never knew that there was a name for it!! :tongue3:

I also had to look at the site and see what a pound hug was. I guess I'm just not "hip".

How someone could get their underwear in a knot over this is waaaay beyond my scope of understanding. Whew!!

    The solution involves two steps:

    First, give them this:

    Second, quote them Romans 1:13a...

"Now I would not have you, ignorant brethren..."

    That should do it.

Good luck on your new job search after taking my advice.

Saggywoman, I couldn't help but laugh at your post. I knew what you meant, but as someone who also works with children...well, you KNOW that we have "issues"!

    Ha!

Sounds like the person that said inappropriate needs a hobby or needs to get a life.

Well I never! You folk just don't understand what is a proper and dignified greeting at church. You're supposed to bow to each other, like we do at my church!:tongue3:
