    back when i was a teenage boy, i loved female friends who liked to hug - can you guess why ? [IMG]

    i think hugging should be kept in the family.

    Hmmm. Well my grandmother was a pastor's wife and she hugged everybody....I remember trying to skirt around her when I was about 12...and she wouldn't have it.

    I am sort of an apprehensive hugger. I like to hug and be hugged...but I hate rejection. I have lots of female friends that I hug and they hug me and I hug my family. But I don't hug any men or boys over the age of 5 or 6 outside of my family. Why? It makes me uncomfortable...and I think it makes them uncomfortable too. Plus my church is against that.

    Don't get me started on whether I think it's good for men to hug and who. [IMG]

    I hug the ladies at my church, but not the guys. I can shake their hands instead. Now I wouldn't mean anything by it if I hugged them, but I want to keep my testimony in tact in every possible way.
    There are only two men besides my daddy, and grandpa that I hug. That would be my preacher, who is 62, and a missionary who comes every year to preach revival who is about the same age as my pastor. I will tell you why these are the only two I hug.
    When I was 11, and just gotton saved, I had the appearance of someone in he mid to late teens, and my grandmother thought it not proper of me to hug any man in the church because she thought people might talk about me. Now at the time I didn't understand her, but I also didn't want to do anything to affect my testimony in a negativce way. So I stopped hugging any male in the church. Well my preacher asked me if I was upsett about something, and the missionary bluttly said "What's wrong with you girl!?" when I moved out of their way when they tried to hug me. I see these two men as like extra grandpa's. I even call my preacher, "grandpa preacher" sometimes, and I'm also realated to him way on down the line so in a way we are "family."
    But would I hug a guy my own age, or any other guy besides the one's listed above? NO, No and NOOO! I've got convictions that I ain't gonna go against no matter what anyone says. I guess it would be like if you were a married woman, would go up and hug every guy in the church? I would hope not. I'm not married yet, but if God wills, there is someone for me! {I hope!}

    I can think of this verse:
    1 Corinthians 7:1-2 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

    The rule should be that you treat a potential mate like you treat your sister. If you feel comfortable hugging your sister, then it's okay. Sometimes it's not, for the very reason am ha'aretz said:
    Paul mentioned how to treat others to young pastor Timothy when he wrote: “Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father. Treat younger men like brothers, older women like mothers, younger women like sisters, in all purity.” 1 Tim. 5:1-2 (ESV)

    I would like to share this with you on hugging..... I knew this young pastor who hugged every woman in the church old or young so I know he done it out of love but they had a young couple in the church and the husband didn't like this pastor hugging on his wife, so they left the church, which was maybe not the right way to handle this situation but it happens.

    Depends on who you are hugging, how long, what for, and what you hope to get out of it.
