The following article is from a Norwegian newspaper:

What do you think? Are the "uniforms" these athletes are required to wear unreasonable?

I thought the beach vollyball was apsolutly ridiculous. NBC bought right in to selling sex by showing about 75% of the time. And now we are learning they are forced to wear those wedgy inetivable bottoms!

There was also the pair from the Netherlands who wore birth control patches on their shoulders to advertise for the company that makes them.

I like beach Voleyball. I used to play alittle in College.
I wouldn't let my daughter play it if she had to wear an uniform like that.
Some of the women's track uni's are just as bad.
The female swimming uniforms were far more modest than VB players.

I think the comments on the outfits are a bit overrated. Having played beach volleyball in college (the joys of college life in a SoCal beach community), I'm glad they made it an olympic sport. It's incredibly physically grueling sport (which explains why I entered the computer field). As far as the outfits, something needs to be considered. Sand, wind, and sun. The most comfortable way to play, frankly, would be to wear nothing at all. I remember getting sand in my swimsuit, and my, did that affect my game! In pro beach volleyball, the best outfit for a woman is a bikini. The women's Olympic outfits are more modest than a bikini, but they do not sacrifice playability for modesty. As for men, the best outfit to wear would be a speedo. I don't know why the men wear wearing as much as they are, since their outfits can adversely affect the outcome of the game. But this sport is a new addition, and over time, I'm sure modifications will be made to the sport that make it more comfortable for the men to play in.

Never mind - maybe I'm just living in the Old Testament still.

I'd have some real trouble with my daughter playing, that's for sure - especially since there's a rule for international competition that a woman must wear that style! The women have no choice in the matter.

The real reason they use the bikini style is to preserve the look and atmosphere of the beach, and everyone knows it.

BTW Johnv, did you play for your college?

Yes, first year. I sufferred an injury when I was 19 that required I give it up. [IMG]

I still play indoor vollyball at my fitness club, but it's a different game, and I'm not nearly as good as I was 20 years ago.

Got to disagree with you here. You can wear a bikini that doesn't ride up your b#@t when you play. And my oh my I wouldn't be playing with nothing on at all if I was a guy ;)

Beach volleyball and naked frisbee throwing belong in the same catagory.
