But illustration, logic, metaphor, etc was an integral part of Jesus' preaching on earth. It should still be part of ours.

I agree. As I stated in my post just before the two of yours, you introduce the gospel after you have provided evidentiary apologetics that force them to question what they think they believe. You fill in the gaps with the gospel.
