Lincoln denied the States the right to secede from the Union. Almost All Constitutional scholars agreed they had the right to. SCOTUS was going to rule they could and Lincoln threatened them jailed with treason. The COTUS was a document that made the central govt weak and the states strong. Lincoln, by the power of his military, made the states weak and the central govt strong. By executive order, he freed slaves. COTUS, by the 3/5th Compromise required to ratify it, had slavery protection agreed upon built into it.

Lincoln looked at the Declaration of Independence, that all men are created equal and endowed by God with the rights of life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness and decided slavery was incompatible with those truths.

And though he also realized states had rights, but knew states do not have the right to deny these basic rights to people by slavery.

Therefore, the basic right of every person to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness supersedes the states right to impose slavery or to secede from the union in order to continue slavery.

Lincoln got it right, both constitutionally and morally. The southern states were wrong and those who continue to argue for the states to have the right to impose slavery, then or now, are both constitutionally and morally weong.

    peace to you

Lincoln got it wrong and slavery and succession are two separate issues.

COTUS protects individual rights from governments, both State and Federal.

If you don’t believe that, then you support gun control at the state and city level. You support shut downs of churches for Covid at state and city level. You support censorship of conservative views at State and city level.

Lincoln got it right. The south violated COTUS with slavery and the attempt to secede in order to keep people in slavery was wrong.

    peace to you

They are two separate issues indeed. Lincoln's stance on each was Unconstitutional.

Lincoln's actions also birthed the 14th Amendment, which has spawned all of the fake "rights" given to a whole host of groups. That amendment alone has done great damage to the nation.

Lincoln and the Union got it horribly, horribly wrong and we are paying for it today.

The original Constitution, the Declaration and the Bible all do not outlaw slavery. Lincoln chose to listen to the radical abolitionists and chose to end slavery via massive amounts of bloodshed on our soil. Had Lincoln listened to the less radical and moderate abolitionists slavery would have ended on its own as mechanization increased without so many lives lost just as it did in all other Western nations.

Anyone in support of the War of Northern Aggression must also be in favor of war over abortion if you're going to be consistent. The killing of 60 million babies is a far worse offense than slavery of 4 million people. Slavery is not a sin in the Bible, murder is. And if war was worth it over slavery then war is worth it over 60 million babies.

My county in the mountains of the upland south did NOT want to secede in the first North Carolina vote. We did not vote to secede until after Lincoln told North Carolina to invade our kin state in South Carolina. God Bless the southrons who died in that evil war. We have family cemeteries all over the ridgetops in my community and every year descendants clean those graves and polish those Southern Crosses of Honor for the bravery and loyalty our ancestors displayed.

The Declaration of Independence declares all men created equal with inalienable rights from God that include life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness. That abolishes the institution of slavery.

To say the Bible doesn’t outlaw slavery is not the same as saying it isn’t sinful. God allowed divorce because of the hardness of men’s hearts and yet God hates divorce.

And all those good Christians claiming the Bible supported slavery conveniently ignored Gods commands on freeing all slaves during the year of jubilee.

Let’s not derail this thread with debate about slavery.

    COTUS is not dead.

    peace to you

So that means only women could be slaves?!

Keep in mind - the Declaration carried NO legal authority
as is was just a declaration.

The Declaration originally had language to abolish slavery, and condemn it. That language was done away with after the lack of agreement among the colonies threatened to derail the unity against England.

Why Thomas Jefferson's Anti-Slavery Passage Was Removed from the Declaration of Independence

The Declaration had the opportunity to abolish slavery, but it didn't, and Lincoln was entirely in the wrong on how he went about ending slavery.

From the Link --- ""The clause...reprobating the enslaving the inhabitants of Africa, was struck out in compliance to South Carolina and Georgia, who had never attempted to restrain the importation of slaves..."

So should Jefferson have refused a compromise - and just let those 2 most Southern colonies just go on their own?.....
