    Adjusting for inflation:

The Marshal plan cost $115.3 billion
    The Louisiana Purchase:$217 billion
The race to the moon: $237 billion
    The New Deal: $500 billion
    The Korean War: $454 billion
    The Iraq war: $597 billion
The Savings and Loan bailout:$256 billion
The Viet Nam war: $698 billion
    All of Nasa:$851 billion

Add all of this together and it will not come close to what we taxpayers are on the hook for this financial crisis we are in. Have we lost our collective minds?

Start looking up folks. I have never been a doomsday kind of person, but I never felt closer to heaven than I do today. Global terrorism, greed, stampedes at our local retail outlets etc. Imagine what it is going to be like when there is a total collapse of our economy. Its no wonder guns are flying off the shelves.

The end of a large middle working class is near. The majority will be working class poor. The old money rich will do just fine.

I believe this just about covers it! Too bad many right-wing extremists support such a shifting of our work force!

    Say what?

First of all, "right wing extremists" means....what? Folks with whom you disagree? Classical fascists? Neo-cons? Define your terms, please.

Second...most folks from the right rabidly oppose government ownership in business. It would seem to me that the population whom you intimate is the problem is indeed opposed to the creation of said problem.

I see some who were calling for conservatives in the "different kind of discussion" thread have yet to walk the talk themselves.

That is a good post. This is a different mindset than the regular Democrat/ Republican blah, blah, blah, but your conclusion is quite reasonable. How far in debt can one nation go? How greedy are we? God is a patient God, but when He says its over, its over. I am sure King Saul realized that the hard way.

You know, when I was a kid, things like this were talked in the millions of dollars, then most of my adult life, in the billions. About five or so years ago, the term trillion started popping up quite often. How many trillion until the next word? Anyone know what it is? Quadrillion, just for your information. I doubt we will ever see it.

I don't know if it means the end is near, such as the Second Coming, or the end of this country, but it is a spiral downhill at an ever increasing rate. Never has a country been so blessed, and so greedy and sinful at the same time. Its not just sin, its sin that we rub God's nose in. Fifty years ago, abortion and gay rights were around, but at least covered up and hidden. We have gone from that to being proud of it, to making it the law of our land. Look all around, from the way people drive, to holding doors open in public places, to the way people who deal with the public are treated, to general cursing, and on and on.

Sorry for the interuption, Democrats and Republicans, continue your blah, blah, blah.

    No kiddin'

Interject an off-topic insult, and make fun of the person who turns it around.

    Real classy.

Assuming the numbers are correct, this is only part of the story. What was the % of GDP for these items? I suspect much larger than the bailouts. Raw numbers are one thing, but how does it stack up as a percentage of the economy?

Thank you for your mature response. I give you a reasoned reply devoid of any personal attack, and...well...OK, then.

Throwing grenades and then refusing to define your terms does not enhance your assertions.
