Here a verse in Acts that signifies how Gentile believers attained eternal life.

Is there any other way then that presented?

How then is there argument concerning “corporate election” and salvation.

If one is already appointed or chosen prior to belief, then there can be no “corporate election.”

Or are all these translations in error?

    New International Version
When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

    New Living Translation
When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers.

    English Standard Version
And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

    King James Bible
And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as were ordained to eternal life believed.

    New King James Version
Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

    New American Standard Bible
When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and all who had been appointed to eternal life believed.

    NASB 1995
When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

    NASB 1977
And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

(Taken from Acts 13:48 When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord, and all who were appointed for eternal life believed..)

The idea that God's will to save is accomplished in Christians with their conversion is obviously not connected with the thought of predestination, In the NT we find "to determine" in Act_15:2, "to appoint" in Act_28:23, and "to order" in Mat_28:16. God orders or appoints (passive voice) in Act_22:10. Christians are ordained to eternal life in Act_13:48; conferring of status rather than foreordination is the point. [TDNT]

TDNT Theological Dictionary of New Testament

Luke is saying, just as Paul had recognized that the Jews had “judged themselves unworthy of everlasting life”, Luke saw that the Gentiles there were putting themselves in a position to receive it as evidenced by their public commitment of faith. Their personal acceptance mirrors the personal rejection of the Jews.

There you have it. Another way to read the verse.

If what say is true, wouldn’t the verse read, “all who believed were ordained to eternal life”? Instead of, “all who were ordained to eternal life believed”?

    peace to you

The second clause (or sentence in a few) of Acts 13:48

Norlie : and as many as were ordained to everlasting life believed.
Goodspeed : and all who were destined for eternal life believed
Weymouth : and all who were pre-destined to eternal life believed.
REB : and those who were marked out for eternal life believed.
NJB : all who were destined for eternal life became believers.
CEB : Everyone who was appointed for eternal life believed.
MLB : and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.
NET : and all who had been appointed for eternal life believed.

    The YLT says it the proper way;
    Act 13:48 And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and did believe—as many as were appointed to life age-during;

    That's Un-English. :)
The YLT is as much of a translation as The Message.

MB, leave out the dashes. Here is a bit of the original. The translators did solid work. There is no other proper rendering than that given in the OP and. RipponsR’s post. For ease I used Bible hub

Calvinist prooftexting again. “They” is a reference to gentiles and the context of that verse is that the gentiles were now ordained to salvation after the Jews rejected the Gospel.

Well, the words, but not grammar. For example, John 13:2, "being ended" versus "during."

Even if I subscribed to your view of “corporate election”, which I don’t, the statement in context stands in that though there had been general rejoicing, ONLY those appointed to salvation were indeed saved.

Martin as I have said to you many many times you have to read things in context.
Paul spoke at a synagogue Act 13:16
He laid out the history of Jews Act 13:17-22
Told them about Jesus Act 13:23-25
    Salvation by Jesus Act 13:26-41
Some Jews & Gentiles sought more information Act 13:42-44
Some Jews rejected the message Act 13:45
Paul turned to Gentiles that believed the message Act 13:46-48

The Gentiles accepted the message that the Jews had rejected. There is no hint of predestination or in your view pre election here but that will not stop you from claiming that there is.
As is says in Rom_10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I gave you the link, did you try it?

if you did, you would see it was from Strongs.

I am too feeble to do much more than that, and always must now rely upon others far closer to the languages to either validate or kindly redirect any translating I do.
